does honda odometers run faster than it should?
i was on a road trip today (300 miles each way)
i looked at the mile marker on the road since i got bored
i resetted my trip odometer when my odometer hit 180,440, and mile marker was at 82 (all 3 happen at the exact same time, since i was timing it (i was bored)
by the time the mile marker was at 112, my odometer was at 180,471. which means for 30 miles, my car racked up 1 extra mile
then i drove the car for an hour and a half (no stoping for gas or rest areas) to mile marker 182 (100 more than what i started) and my trop odometer showed 103.6
so that means my car would be about 6,000 miles less than what it should have been, and my miles per gallon is lower than what i think it is
is this normal or is it illegal for honda to do this?
oh yea i also bought new stock dx tires for me car last week (175/70/13) and my speed sensor is oem.
thanks

yea civette... i dont mind much since my car is a pos and it has high mileage. even if it went back 6,000 miles in the odo, the value of the car wouldnt be any different. i just think its bad for a car to rack up miles faster than it should, like the cars warranties would expire sooner, the owner of the car thinks they got better gas mileage, etc..

Not only high fuel mileage but when your warranty ends at x mileage and x years you hit the x mileage way faster.
There was something out about this that Honda admitted to faster mileage rackups. Forget where I read about it but it was stated.
They even did so much as to extend warranties on certain vehicles for a percentage of mileage more.
My cars do it and my dads 01 accord v6 is the same way. Coincidence.......I think not.

Not just them, I believe it was all the new cars from 01 and up. All the accords had it for sure cause it happened with my friends. Big recall and alot of pissed off people.

yea, had a little problem with my new em1 as well...i got the car and the speedo was ready like 10 mph faster than what i was actually doing....i thought it was cause of the aftermarket rims but i called tirerack and the tires that are on there are correct according to rims size. so i called the previous owner and he said he had the indiglo gauges on there and that he had removed the needle on the guages to get them off. so i opened up the cluster and reset the needle and it reads pretty close to perfect now...about a 1 mph off, i tested it with those stationary radar systems the police set up on random streets.
but this milage thing is something i've never looked at, i'm def gonna have to take a closer look at this when i get on the highway
