Does the d16z6 head and d167/8 head have different Cam timing??

I just wanted to know if swapping a d16z6 head on my d16y7 block would work. I read in another honda-tech article that 88-95 heads and 96-00 have different timing? Is that true? Or is swapping a d16z6 head on a y7 just a straight bolt on and I dont have to worry about timing?

I searched and couldn't find the answer I was looking for, thanks let me know.

i just did this.. my car was slower with the y7 cam gear... so i put the z6 gear back on. works better

(you can tell the cam timing is different cause the key is in a different location on both (but close))

So when you first did the mini me, you used a y7 cam gear on your z6 head? And it had poor results? So as long as I use the z6 cam gear ( basically the complete z6 head) I should be fine with no timing problems?

Sorry to bother you with all of these questions. Basically what Im doing is I have a z6 and a y7 motor. The y7 has around 50 k miles and the z6 has about 150k miles. I just basically want the z6 head and tranny on my y7 block, because of the low miles.

you might be fine. my z6 cam gear was faster... but my timing belt was loose and made noises. so i tighened it (and accidently moved the cam gear) and now its not as fast as it was.. but sitll faster than the y7 cam gear.

yeah i did the same tihng.. except my head/tranny has 235,000 on it =[ =[ =[

z6 cams have their keyways approx. 4 degrees advanced vs. y7/y8 cam gears...

the z6 cam gear has the keyway inline with the up mark, aka TDC, where as the y7/y8 gears have keyways that are not inline with the up mark, aka TDC...so, when you put a z6 gear on a y7/y8 head, you will have 4 degs. advance. if you put a y7/y8 gear on a z6 head, you will be 4 degs retarded.
