How many miles? - And is it bone stock? If not, what modifications are done to it (be specific)?

when i got it they guy told me they slapt a newer engine on it with 30,000 miles on it if im not wrong its should be near the 50,000 mark now the odometer reads 140,000 and it had a ecu for an automatic but last month i got the right ecu for it the p28 another thing i noticed is they took the air conditioner out of the car and the power steering too but no other modifications everything else is stock.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Syndacate »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">How many miles? - And is it bone stock? change the oil before the test and put in some of that "guaranteed pass emissions formula" it cost like 8 bucks

here is a guarantee to pass method i use all the time....
go to walmart
go to the hardware section
find the paint thinners
there is a quart sized tin can called S-L-X Denatured alcohol. (blue and red tin)
put the whole quart into about a half a tank of gas and drive for 30min - 1 hour then go straight to the emissions. guarantee you will pass.

on hondas most of the time its a o2 sensor or the catalytic converter.
i would say for sure CAT O2 and TUNE(plugs cap rotor wires)
by the way what was the co reading at?

Re: (deadline)
deadline could be right if you failed at 15 and pass at 25, it could be that the tech didnt warm your car enough. cause by the time you get to 25 mph the cat is way hot.

ok well if you wanna cheap quick fix go with what i said earlier, the denatured alcohol burns all the impurities out of your engine(pretty much like you guys that like to use seafoam, except it doesnt get in the oil and ruin ****)
use the denatured alcohol it will pass with flying colors,
i had a 83 s10 v6 with 4bbl holley carb and no cats and straight exhaust, i threw one of those in the tank and the guy at the test center said my readings were "shady" b/c they were like .01 and .002 so dude was like well it passed by my book so i cant say ****.

Run two cat If you can get your hand on a VX/CX header. Super low emission and super low back pressure.

Re: (zipoton)
honestly i have tried it just the day of, i would rather it be fresh in there when you go through emissions b/c it will be burning mostly the alcohol which burns cleaner, its about the same equivalent as running 116 octane in your tank but not as harsh on the cat.

That maybe the problem there, give us the WHOLE test result number.

of course i dont lie about my cheating the emissions laws, id rather spend 4-5 bucks to pass emissions than spend a few 100 to keep trying to pass.

Re: (h22apwrdcivic)
Hey man, I just did this whole thing... My numbers were way crappy and the problem was I had a Bad O2 sensor and that my cat wasn't getting warm enough. So i tested my O2, it was bad, replaced that, retarded my timing cuz that helps for a cleaner burn of the fuel mixture (lower emissions, not as much power though)drove on the freeway for about 30 minutes, and then went strait to I&M. I passed with flying colors.
Basically are you getting kind of poor gas mileage? I was and that was because of my O2 sensor. If you're not then yours is probably good.
I would retard your timing a bit which is easy. If you don't know how then just ask someone on here. I'll explain it if you need.
Then just go for a drive on the freeway for at least 15 minutes to warm up your cat, and then while you're on your way to I&M (or what ever your testing facility is called) keep the engine revving around 2-3K while your stopped. That way you'll keep your cat hot and keep it working right. And if you have to wait in line at the place then do the same thing, keep it revved around 2-3k. You should have no problems.
If that doesn't work then try the SLX stuff and let us know if that works or not. Good luck man!

Re: (Ahknodd)
catalytic converter and o2!
theres nothing else on most hondas, if it runs good thats all there is to it. cat and o2.
on the timing you could only adjust it +-2 degrees, not much difference.
any more and it fails on the timing check.
