Default Do you think this is worth it? ZC Motor swap in to a DX EG Hatch.

Hey guys,

The deal is i found a hatchback a few days ago that isnt being used at all, and the owner is interested in selling, im pretty sure i can get a good deal of it since it hasnt rolled in quite some time.

With my current car im runing about low to mid 15's wich i find sort of slow, so i was thinking of swaping the ZC in to the DX and the D15 in to the sedan and selling the sedan. Do you guys think it would be worth it? How much would i run in the 1/4 mile (ball park figures are fine).

The DX is an auto, is there cutting involved in order to install MT components and such?

Thanx in advance.

*Bump* I tried searchin but neither ZC or DX are accepted by the search engine since they are too short.

the only "cutting" that is involved when doing a Auto to manual swap is the side tranny mount has to be removed and a new one installed.

i had trouble researching the zc swaps as well. They usually put them in the 4g civics. The only obd1 ZC i could find mention of was the jdm d16z6 equivalent.

Regardless, i say save our money and get an engine with some torque.

I have the ZC, its a nice engine, we just get it with D16A9 as a code, not ZC. I dont want to pay for a new engine, i just wanted to swap engines between the two cars.

What type of ZC?

There's 3 different ones you could put in that EG hatch.

1. DOHC ZC rated at 130hp
2. SOHC VTEC ZC rated at 125-130hp
3. SOHC non-VTEC ZC rated at 120hp

Which one are you looking at?

The 92-95 civic is OBD1, and the only OBD1 ZC is the VTEC one. There were OBD1 DOHC versions, but they were rare as hell.

The SOHC non-VTEC can be converted to OBD1 easily with an OBD1 distributor, injectors, and other misc. parts.

The DOHC ZC (unless you find the rare OBD1) might be harder to convert, because I'm not sure if there's an OBD1 distributor out there for it.

So which one are you looking at?

I would. I had an ODB0 DOHC ZC in my 91 hatch & loved it.

I had a DOHC ZC in my 87' CRX Si, thing was pretty torquey. and scary in the snow. I used the Si ECU w/ a SAFC, car ran good for a year (before trade in). if its the DOHC id say get it, and boost it.
