Default Do I really Need Camber Kits....

Until I learn how to do my own dam aligments!!!!! Im stuck with these dam shops...Well as I go from place to place looking for good prices(Im cheap Dammit) They keep telling me that I need to get Camber Kits....Im not sure about custom offsets either as I have yet to tinker with them. Anyways, are camber kits really necessary???? If so what are some really good polyurathane brands????

Unless you have a truly excessive drop, the chances are good that you don't need a camber kit.

thats another thing how low is too low....i plan on road racing the little hatch but for the mean time im hitting up canyons so i figure a 3" from stock would give me a good balance/clearance mixture

How low is too low? Different people will give you different opinions. You can only judge it yourself. Yes you will need to get a camber kit if your rims are either bowing or you want to get the toe fixed with an alignement. If you are really cheap why not just raise it up a little bit. My guess is that your pretty low if you cannot get an alignement without a camber kit.

dumping your car isn't the best thing to do. some ppl think the lower their car is better it handles. wrong. i'd suggest getting a lifetime alignment that when if you choose to get coilovers you can adjust ride height and go and get alignment all the time.

you don't have to do jack if you don't care how long your tires last. i think you said you had a 3" drop... that'll eat up your tires kinda quick. that's really the only concern when it comes to camber kits, tire wear.

After I lowered mine 1.5" one place told me I needed a camber kit and it would be $300 to align, and another shop said I didn't need a kit and things have worked out just fine. Just shop around.

I would get them anyways. If you're gonna drop 3" you are more than likely going to need it.

If your going to go lower than 1.5in I would get them. I have tokico struts with eibach springs. Car is not "slammed" with that set up.

I went to a shop to get an alignment and they told me that my camber was so bad that my tires had about 3k miles left. Almost 9k miles later and there is hardly any camber wear.

For the 1975th time people, negative camber doesn't make tires wear more. Improper alignment does (eg. toe in, toe out) That will be the only major factor in how long your tires last aside from how you drive.

:edit: But keep your air pressure right too

negative camber may not make YOUR tires wear, but it sure as hell made mine. And yes, i did have the caster and toe adjusted first. i was going through a set of brand new tires every 3 months before my camber kit. now its been 6 or 7 months with barely any signs of wear.

If you go through the trouble of dramatically changing your suspension by dropping it, wouldnt you want the angle of your tire adjustable anyways? What if you go autocrossing and decide you want negative camber today? then you can come home and straighten them out to save money on tires.

just get your alignment and tell them to set your toe to 0. That way it won't eat up tires.
