do i realli need the o2 sensor?
hey sorry bout the very nub question,
but i got a generic header, and it has a hole and is threaded for an o2 sensor.
But the hole in it goes nowhere, it jus ends into the header.
My question would be then, should i jus drill a hole thru into the header?
or does the o2 sensor realli affect the driveability of the car?
or gas mileage?
thx in advance

the o2 sensor in the header is required for adjustment of fuel/air ratio at all times. the secondary o2 sensor (in the cat) is not as necesary and can easily be replaced with a o2 simulator (thread in my sig below)

alright i got the dc header but no bung in the header only one in the collector. the sensor i had is bad and since then ive had shity gas mileage. i cant seem to find an 02 sensor that has long enough wires to run all the way up to the connection. any suggestions

obd1 hondas only have one O2 sensor. since this guy's name is egcivic, he probably has a 92-95 civic. prob not an EG tho. i know people get new cars, etc tho, so its not certain.
i think this egcivic guy might be saying that the header he bought has an O2 bung (the nut that is welded to the pipe), but there is not a hole that goes down into the header. like, they didn't drill a hole, they just welded a nut to it. so when he asked about drilling the hole, i think he was asking if he should drill a hole so he can fit his O2 sensor down into the bung. my answer to him is...
yes, drill the hole, but DO NOT touch the threads with the drill bit. i suggest using a drill bit that is a few sizes smaller than the threads themselves, then use a dremel or similar tool with a grinding bit to remove any other metal that keeps the sensor from going in all the way. if possible, remove the header from the inside of the collector. i dunno if you would be able to fit your dremel bit up in there, but it would be safer to remove excess metal from that end.

you don't have a 21mm open ended wrench either? an open ended wrench is easier to use.

Thats because just "chipping" the ECU does not enable someone to run without the O2 sensor. Whomever said that was grossly mistaken. Now, if the chip is designed to disable the O2, then that is another story. Unless your fuel tables are very well tuned, at that point you can kiss your mileage and driveability good bye. I have my tables fairly well on and got 28mpg with the O2 disabled for a while.
