Default Do i need a new engine?

there is an aweful knocking noise coming from my engine, its barely drivable and stalls when i stop, and slow starting it. its a 98 civic with 90k on it. i was told that the compression is fine in all the cylinders, but was told i was looking at getting a new engine. then someone else told me i dont need a new engine. just a part. can someone possibly tell me what the problem exactly is? or what i should look into?

Knocking noise huh, maybe there are broken valves. Take it to a shop and check out the whole engine.

from what little info you have given my guess is you may have bent one or more rods or at least thats what happened to me and those were my symptoms. but if you could elaborate a little bit more like when it started, how hard you drive the car, etc etc. we need the whole story to diagnose over the internet, or you could just take it to a reliable shop and have them look at it.

if he bent a rod it would have lower compression.

mostlikly a spun rod bearing. doe the noise increase or speed up under acceleration? if so mostlikly a spun rod bearing.

what model is your civic? if its a DX then look for a d16y8 engine to swap in. mine cost 400 bucks and included axles, ECU, a/c and power steering pump.

if your car is already an EX then find a d16y7 and swap the heads and install the y7 with y8 head. will give u basicly the same engine as before.

it's a spun rod bearing, i'd recommend just getting a new longblock
