do i keep this car or not? what would you guys do
Ok everyone i need some advise. I have this 94 civic dx coupe i bought a while back hoping to just drop a motor in and drive, maybe fix it up as I went along. This is a 2nd car so it's not a big rush to fix up. After putting a motor in it, I noticed it needed a lot of little things, like bushings, bolts that have rusted out, bolt holes that are completely striped out, busted windshield just all kinds of little things. now if you guys had the opportunity to sell or trade the car and look for something else would you. I have already put alot of money in this car so i'm wanting some advise from some of you who have gotten into big projects do you guys keep some of your cars and just rework all the little problems before you build them up or do you get rid of them and look for a more solid car.
this is what it started out as
and this is where i am at now

Why'd you cover up the fogs ? and what's wrong with the trunk?
I'd keep the car and just fix it up.
If I had the car and time, I'd Slam it, get some center caps, swap a B in it, and call it a good week haha.
That car is perfect for a Honda Project.

thanks guys, well when i bought the car how you see the body is exactly how it was. the fogs were cut out and that mesh was put in. along with the center grill, so not sure what to do about that. as far as the trunk goes, what do you mean whats wrong. It has a spoiler on it but other than that nothing. i put a d16y7 in it to drive and so far so good. i put me del sol wheels on it.

what all is still wrong is this
1. every bolt is seized up practically so anything i touch breaks ha ha
2. the quarter panel at one point was replaced, so inside the trunk looks like $hit
3. all of the bushings are worn out ( heck the car has 240k on it)
4. the windshield is busted ha ha was when i got it
5. the floor pan where the driver seat bolts in the back has one spot completely stripped out and a hole about the size of a nickle (not really sure what to do there)
6. it's a dx ha ha so no power options what so ever
7. has a macco paint job. at least that what i think
8. little trim pieces painted silver and busted up
now i know projects are projects, but dang i've never had to spend so much time getting a car back to stock just to get to start on the build ha ha

i would either get rid of it or keep it as a beater.
it may be too far gone by now to be logically saved.

thats kind of what i was thinking. i mean dang you gotta draw the line somewhere. i was thinking either a crx with h22, or a cb7 accord with h22 turbo. i'm really leaning towards the cb7 just to be different of course, but i'm needing some backing ha ha

well i've had several hatches, and i'm just not feeling that for some reason, but i guess it's because everyone has one. i am also building a del sol with an eg front conversion, but i am ways away from completing that so i just don't know what to do.

ha ha i love all of my cars but i do change my mind alot. i guess because i truly miss my em1. i have had just about every honda that has ever been made all the way back to an 84 and 86 hatch, but i seem to just get bored easily. i want something fun, yet different, and mature in style, i guess thats why i am thinking cb7 accord ex, slammed with who knows what

anyone with experience on cb7 builds. yeah yeah i know look under the accord thread, but i want to know more from people who build civics, if they have this experience to see how they liked it and what the differences were as far as ride quality, ease of build, finding parts, etc

im almost in the same boat, got a eg hatch with a b16a in it and runs champ, but the interior is crap and so is the exterior, wondering if i should buy a shell and put the b16 in that and then scrap the shell i got. Your car looks pretty good as it sits though

what is your guys opinion of the 92 prelude si 4ws. not to be the fasted car on the road, but i am looking for fun to drive, handle great, some speed with mods and the ability to have great hp if i decide to build it up. i know the preludes are heavy, but the 4ws would be awsome, and i am a little old for street racing so it's more about style for me at this point

How much do you want/need it? If youre just looking for something to have fun with, I say fix it up, its not in that bad shape thats all little stuff. but 240k is up there in mileage. Maybe find something with less.

Re: do i keep this car or not? what would you guys do
I honestly would sell it. I personally have had a "project" car (92 hatch) now for 3 years as my second vehicle and it seems as if something wants to break after you fix one thing. If I had the time/money to buy all new stuff at once I would've and it may very well have been finished long ago. I've replaced EVERY interior part in the car with stuff that I had to wait to come upon that was in good condition. Suspension including all new struts, springs, control arms. Hell I even replaced the trailing arms and went to integra brakes front and rear because the bolt heads on everything seems to snap leaving me with useless civic parts.
Sorry for the rant but for the money I've spent keeping up a 92 Honda Civic I could have bought a much nicer newer car or put in a little extra every month and get a new car.
Hope my opinion helps

I'm in the same boat with my 94 Accord. I've put too much money in it to sell it, but I really want something newer (it's the family car).
In the end you just have to decide if it's something you want to keep dropping money into. You never get your money out of a project car so if you do keep it plan to keep it for awhile or lose your shirt in the sale. GL

Re: do i keep this car or not? what would you guys do
all great advice.
Ron454321 i'm in the exact same position as you are, i am looking to put some trailing arms, and lower control arms. I had to put new struts and spings on, the brake caliper bolts are all screwed up, so i fixed all of that, but yeah it seems like for the money i could have bought a newer nicer car. I don't mind a project but dang i dont want something i gotta replace all the broken stuff just to get to start to have fun with the car 3 years later.
if i sold this car i'd ask 1800. that is exactly what i have in it will all of the new parts

Re: do i keep this car or not? what would you guys do
Started out with this.
How it sits now.
I got the car with no seats, No CD player, No motor, No rims and stock springs.
I had to replace the dash harness some interior to match the rest and put some Koni struts on. I took the dash out so many times I could do it in about 10 mins. car was down for about 3 months. None of the rims ever fit on the front (GSR brakes) and I had to get wheel spacers. The ignition was broken, and alot of small things that I thought wasn't worth it at the time.
Plan on doin another H swap into this, right now has a single in it. Also have some Graphite Grey paint ready to be painted on. In the end I think it was all worth it, you get to know your car better and you know exactly whats wrong with it, instead of getting another car with a new set of problems. Im still dealing with window problems but the car is going to be going anywhere soon.
