I'm going to drain/refill the coolant in my 2000 civic. My question is should I only use honda coolant, or is it ok to use other coolants? I have some "Peak Long Life Antifreeze and Coolant" in the garage, is it safe to use that instead?

I've used an offbrand coolant that wasn't OEM Honda stuff and it seemed to work fine for me. It's just what your more comfortable with I'd say. Just my 2 cents though

Yeah, the stuff in my garage is neon green and the coolant in there right now is dark green b/c its dirty

Honda OEM coolant is blue, it has an additive to protect the aluminum in the radiator. For your original question you can use the green coolant just do not use orange that is GM coolant (maybe others) and that will mess up your system. My advise is if you have the extra cash get the OEM stuff but if not you will do no harm by using what is in your garage. A gallon of OEM coolant is like $16 I think.

Honestly IF I were to drain my coolant again, I would just drop the extra $2-5 and just get OEM.

For me that isn't a big deal, but if you can't spare the extra cash, your just fine using none oem coolant.

I have prestone and water in mine, it's just fine.
