I should be getting my dizzy with in a couple of days. I have an aquaintance who is a mechanic, young guy who works for an expensive auto mech. shop.
I don't anything about installing a dizzy, and don't tell me it's not hard, cause for me it's not worth it to mess it up.
How long should removing the old one, and installing the new one take ?
I will need this guy to come to my house from his house to do install(about 5 miles away) How much should this job cost me. Factor in that I'm in NYC, and that going rates are higher than most other parts of the country.

It shouldnt take long 30 min or so.... i wouldnt give him more than 20 if he was a friend but if not maybe 40$

Good deal, thanks guys. I was thinking something along those lines, price wise.
lol, I knew some one would say it's not hard(88dx). I hear that it's not just plug and play, that that portion that connects to the engine has to be just right or timing will be out of whack(what ever, i can't afford to not have this done right).

But thanks for the info, hopefully I can get him to come over, and do it for less than $40

So I hear. It's just that if I installed it, and the damn car didn't run, I would want to kill my self for trying to save $20-40 lol .

replace that damn thing yourself. Learn somethign while your at it!, Its 3 -12MM bolts to take it off! and 2 plugs to un-plugg, plus swapping the cap and rotor, which I would buy new while your at it.

Here at Honda-tech, we do **** ourselves, we DON'T pay anyone else to do it, unless its an exhaust weld-up.....

Yeah do it yourself, 3- 12 mm bolts, put it on, bolt it down, and plug it up. Start the car, and it it doesnt fire, make sure u plugged the spark plugs wires up right, or it could be 180 degrees out. If so, un-bolt flip the fin that inserts into the cam shaft, and everything should be fine. 15 min job at the most, and u get the feeling that u actually did something in your lifetime.

Ok let me know if I have this straight.

The only way the timing can change is if the distributor is rotated correct ?

Is the fin on the back of the distributor rotatable by hand ? And if you rotate it does the rotor move with it ?

The only way the car will not start is if i'm 180degrees out on the fin placement. The distributor can only sit one of two ways onto the cam ?

So in conclusion, if I some how mark the postion of the old dizzy before removal, and line up the new one with this mark, my timing should theoretically stay the same ? And if some how the car doesn't start, I will probably just have to remove it, and rotate the fin 180 degrees ?

the dizzy will only go on one way. its offset so you cant expletive it up.

you will need a timing light if you are changing dizzy's
