DIY urethane motor mounts???
could you just fill OEM motor mounts with urethane calk??? would this be just as good as the inserts??? I would almost think that it would be better because it will bond to the ruber vs just a insert???

you should try it, and let us know. If your engine falls out of your car while driving it, its not my fault
EDIT: Im not saying it will fall out, or that its a bad idea, im just saying try it, im sure someone else has done it before, but they probably dont post on HT

I tried inserts and the DIY and the DIY is a lot stiffer. I had a 92 CX hatch with a LS motor and a 95 teg with another B-series in it.
CX had the DIY mounts and the teg had the inserts.... CX shakes everything on idle... ES inserts don't.... well not as much. Not even half as much.

i did it on my 92 hatch. just on the tranny and timing side, holy ****, it helped a ton. seriously, went out and dropped the clutch from 4500 and wheelhop like crazy, bad enough to knoch the faceplate off my cd player. did those 2 mounts went back the next day and did the same thing, no wheel hop whatsoever. really affirmative traction out of the hole

I'm running the ES inserts (only the front lower two) and you can definately feel a difference with just those two. At idle.. it vibrates, but doesn't really rattle or shake anything up like some people say.
Also, how much of a difference does the rear mount insert make? I heard it was a major pain in the *** to install, and that's why I havent installed the rear yet. Does it make much of a difference?

i was looking at that also, i might get my front 2 isntalled aswell... the rear looks like u gotta get it from uptop.. i am lazy, and inexperienced

I did it, works great. Super cheap. Much much better than inserts. You leave the rubber in there, tape up the mounts and rest them in a bucket of sand. Get the mix from Mcmaster Car, something around 60-70 shore A. Pour it in the mounts and it will seep into every crack and space in the rubber. The **** will flow out of everything so be sure and use the bucket of sand. Use a hairdryer to get it to form, flip them over in the sand and let it sit over night. That will help make it smooth and flat on both sides of the mount.
I learned it from the MR2 Gurus over at Racing Strong.

Re: DIY urethane motor mounts??? (bgoetz)
I have tried both the window weld and the ES mounts (I wrote the Homemade motor mount article)
Here's my thought. One of my filled mounts was "loose" after 3 years of use. Effort vs cost vs overall effectiveness? I like the ES mounts. I think I paid about $30 with shipping from Summit racing. I installed all 3 and it makes a huge difference.
Comparing the amount of vibration you get with your dash is not the best way to tell if they are stiffer. With all three mounts installed, I would say it's just as stiff, if not stiffer than the window weld...and it's leaps and bounds easier to do.
As for dash vibrating, when I build-up my B18C1, I had the crank balanced, so the vibration in the car is not bad at all. At a fast idle, it can be a little annoying, but other than that, the fact that you have no slack in the drivetrane is nice.
Suggestion, if you are going to do all three mounts, it will probably be easier to use a hoist to raise the engine a bit. You don't have to do it this way, and I wish I hadn't lent out my hoist, but it will be much easier to get at that rear mount.

Re: DIY urethane motor mounts??? (civicgsr)
actually this kinda goes back to old hot rod tricks. they used to fill their mounts with fiberglass resin and let it dry. (of course it took a while to dry )
and i've seen the urethane thing done and then wrapped wtih fiberglass to hold it in. but i dont know about the long term issue's with it. its just what i've seen.
