Anyone know what is the point of doing this? Obviously not to save weight, and you would have the same amount of room if not more if you just folded the seats down.

This is my (and others) cup of tea. We all have different wants/desires/looks for our cars

Maybe if every USDM car had the JDM rear seats. I had no rear floor to begin with when I bought my car, and no, you don't get the same amount of space with the rear seats down. the USDM seats do not fold flat/flush with the rear trunk floor. So, lost space. Removing rear seats gets rid of the "Hey, gimme a ride!" when your are dealing with 2+ potential passengers. I can go on, but why. If you don't like it, don't bother.

So is it for appearance? because I still dont see the point to add additional weight. I also noticed you built up the cargo area. That would decrease space opposed to directly laying mdf or or plywood to the floor.

I could have lowered the actual false floor if I had the right tools or bought thinner material but i was working with mostly free wood. Even though I did raise the floor, since it is flat, I am able to pile in stuff easier, so I have seen an added benefit. I've seen the "Kits" and they are for appearance only to give a "cleaner" look. I did it because I didn't need the rear seats, and thought it would benefit me which it has. And now, with the additional space under the floor, I have room to store my driving supplies (OE spare tire/tools, flares, torque wrench, mechanix gloves, bungees, blanket & pillow) and the bulkhead gives me an area to mount my fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

alright alright its not a terrible idea and it looks pretty nice but the stuff you listed made me lol. What do you need all that stuff for? blanket pillow and a first aid kit sounds like your ready for cross country rally.

Instead of using 2x4's I used 1x4's. And for the cover I used a 1/8 inch thick plywood instead of what the OP used. Add the brackets, carpet and nails and it really isn't that heavy at all. If anything it's probably about the same weight if not lighter then the rear seats.

I'm still going to post pics. I just got to get them during the day.

+1

I am using a corrugated white plastic, cedar 1x2's, sound deadening insulation, and an aftermarket carpet. I'm certain it weighs less than what was removed.

good job, but as stated before, that just ads more and more weight. prob still lighter than factory seats though. idk.

Def. lighter. The entire roll of insulation probably weighed less than 3lbs.

Hopefully that wheel is tied down somehow. With no rear seat, if you get into a front collision, that wheel may meet the back of your head on it's way to the windshield.
