DIY: Low Fuel Indicator Light Test
Here is an excerpt from the Helm's service manual:
1. Check the No. 25 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box before testing.
2. Park the vehicle on level ground.
3. Drain the fuel into an approved container. Reinstall the fuel tank drain bolt with a new washer.
4. Add less than 4 Liters (1.1 US Gallons) of fuel and turn the ingnition switch ON (II). The low fuel indicator light should come on within four minutes.
- If the light comes on within four minutes, go to step 8.
- If the light DOES NOT come on within four minutes, go to step 5.
5. Remove the access panel from the floor (below the rear seat).
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the fuel tank sending unit 3P connector.
7. Connect the fuel tank sending unit 3P terminals No. 1 (BLK) and No. 3 (GRN/YEL)with a jumper wire.
- If the light comes on, replace the fuel gauge sending unit.
- If the light DOES NOT come on, check for an open in the GRN/YEL wire between the fuel guage sending unit and the fuel gauge, a blown bulb or a loose ground (G552, located in the driver's side door sill under the carpet)
8. Add 4 Liters (1.1 US Gallons) of fuel, the light should go off within four minutes.

Odd I thought all honda's had low fuel lights.
My 00 SiR Does
My 90 Prelude did.
Maybe they just put it in the higher end cars.
It is not the most reliable thing is the world though neither is the fuel gauge I use my trip meter to judge how much gas I have left.

Does your DX cluster have a tach? I thought all 96 and up came with a low fuel light... although I'm not 100% about the ones without tachs...
My 1992 Integra had one, my 1997 Acura 1.6EL (same as civic ex) has one...

You could probably get a EX fuel level sending unit and wire it up, but I doubt that would really be worth it... too much work and money

Re: DIY: Low Fuel Indicator Light Test (SumOne)
I have a 97 Civic HX and it has a low fuel light in the cluster, but it doesn't come on when im low on fuel or even when you first start the car and the rest of the dash lights come on for a second or two. Does anybody know why that is?
Thanks
