DIY H4 to D2R HID bulb conversion (Very Ghetto)

This is for those of you that would like to use a HID D2R bulb in your H4 socket. If you have the cash, you can dish out $60 for a pair of these adapters...

https://i13.ebayimg.com/01/i/03/67/25/5d_1_b.JPG

But if you're ghetto like I am, stay tuned.

What I did was I separated the H4 bulb rings from the bulb itself.
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

Now super glue the ring to the D2R bulb...(you can stop here, but you'll have a messy beam pattern).
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

Here's where it gets ghetto...

I cut apart a soda can into these pieces, bending it to match the H4 rings.
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

Now super glue the aluminium pieces around the bottom of the H4 ring. Picture shown is with an added reflector piece at the tip of the bulb so it doesn't blind incoming cars.

And there you have it, the poorman's H4 to D2R adapter.https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...ZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

NE1 could just go out and buy it, but it takes a MAN to do it himself..nice job https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Using DIET COKE instead of "cherry" would significantly help as far as weight reduction is conserned. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Could you take some pictures of the beam pattern https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

LMAO! Of course C2 works if you want all the taste, but with minor weight reduction. Good job. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

are you planning on painting the shields?on another site,in a post about homemade shields,a guy had comparison pics of of the pattern with a shield made of aluminum, then one of the exact same part, but with it painted flat black.the bare aluminum reflects a bunch of light, increasing glare, and making the already bad pattern an HID bulb makes in a halogen housing even worse.
BTW-have you happened to find anywhere that sells that type of shield for H7 bulbs?

im waiting for pix of this beam pattern i think it will most likely be a nasty glare shot.

Re: (JDMlyfestyle)

To me i think he definetly wont have the same beam pattern as with a projector but it prolly would look better than just shoving a d2r/s bulb in a h4 casing. all in all i give em a https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif for creativity.

ilike that.
thats home made .

super glue wont hold. You will need to use jb weld or 2 minute epoxy like i did. You also need to paint the shield flat black.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not satified with the beam pattern. Maybe it needs to be painted flat black. Or maybe that's the best it gets in a halogen reflector housing. So much for creativity. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Yup, reflectors are designed for one type of bulb as the optics all are derived from having the focal point of light in one specific point. Change that specific point and the optics are all thrown off spec. Not just the cutoff is affected by this, but also the light distributed under the cut off. Best thing to do would be to use a headlight assembly specifically meant for HID lamps. Anything else will produce a shit load of glare and generally piss off other drivers.

Read this: http://www.danielsternlighting....html

I put more faith in the opinion of a photometric engineer than a random layperson commenting on their conversion.

No matter what you do with sheilds, you will still have a poor beam pattern and blind oncoming traffic. The only way to remedy this is to do a full HID projector retrofit.

You're using a halogen refractor lens, which just sprays light everywhere, so until you fix that, you won't get a good light pattern.

post up pics anyways. just for curiousity's sake
