So I was sittin around bored and decided to make myself some CTR lookin headlights and do a write up, so here we go.
Unbolt your bumper, two bolts on the bottom, two at the corners under the fender, 7 plastic clips under the hood, pull straight off.
Unbolt the lights, 4 bolts, unclip the wiring harnesses, and remove.
Take off all the rubber moisture drains, the buld boot, and bulb.

Now the tricky part of the whole job, you need to head up the silicon to seperate the lens from the housing. Heat up the oven to 325 F. Put the light on a bake tray and put in the oven for 2 MINUTES!!!!!!



A hair dryer or heat gun will work to help heat up the silicone. Remove from the oven and use a flat head screw driver or a butter knife to start seperating. Be careful to not break off the plastic clips because you want a good seal so they dont fog inside.

Once they are split apart you have to un screw the chrome bezel from via 2 screws.
Once thats out, remove the screw from the reflector and remove the reflector, I painted my reflector also because i hate that orangy amber look, its preference. In 96-98 models, remove the orange bulb cap and discard it, if you wish.
Clean the parts to be painted with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth. try not to put your fingers on parts to be painted because paint dosent stick well to finger oils.



Now its time to paint your bezels. I chose to use Rust-Olieum Metallics Its like a gunmetal bronzish colour, use whatever colour makes you happy. Make sure you do it in a dust free, well venilated area, i live in an apt now so my out door closet serves the purpose, so much for the security deposit. Now the first coat should be very light because it is very easy to get runs on a chrome surface. let dry for like 20 min or so.

Apply the rest of your coats till you achieve the desired result.


Let it completly dry for a good while and then for the reassembly. Screw the bezel back onto the lens.


Now to mate the lens back with the housing. Now to ensure proper sealage, so you dont get a light full of moisture, make sure to heat them up again the same EXACT way you took them appart. Make sure all the tabs got locked down and everything is all nice and sealed up. Then take a step back and check out your new cool finished product. Im sure this has been done before, and I know i could of easily got a pair for under 200 bucks, but hell id rather make my own ****.

What an awesome writeup 96CivicBoostCoupe! I couldn't see the pix either, however, I cut and pasted your entire write-up into Microsoft Word to save it. Whoa! In Microsoft Word the pix all show up great!
Much appreciated writeup. I gave up trying to open up my headlights. Now, I will try again.

pictures worked for me. turned out really good. i agree about the signal reflector being painted to. i bought mine black but i will have to take them apart to paint that.
