DIY conversion of eg headlight housing into turbo intake
ok i looked everywhere for plastic lense headlights but only found glass ones
So I decided to work with the glass ones(ones that I have)
I have the $100 jdm headlights. Real fancy junk.
Heres a DIY to make a intake dealy from a headlight housing.
and i didnt want to buy a $250 carbon fiber fancy dealy from pswdjdm
This isn’t my daily driver it’s the driver side for the turbo...enjoy.
i started by taking the headlight out. either driver or pasngr side.
remove the clips on the lense cover. put a towel over the lense and use a breaker bar or your face to break the glass to remove it
(i tried prying it but with no avail.) after breaking the glass pick it all off
after you get the glass off. remove the all screws from the back of the housing. and then remove the inside peice
from there you have a plain housing. bondo the small holes from screws in the back of it.
and use a dremel to cut the inside lip from the lense if you choose to.
i painted mine black after some cutting and sanding
and the back of the housing has a lip for a coupler, from there you can route anywhere. *my contribution*
EDIT
FINISHED HER UP
the original idea was to add a coupler to the back of it...but ther isnt much of a lip to it
so it sat on the shelf until my brain starting getting better ideas. sooo
3" piping
cut a peice like this
about 3-4" inches of length for a coupler on the back and cut lines the other way about 1" to fold out
cut this lip off so there is a 3" hole
test fit it in. make sure its snug
fold out the fins. doing this its already pretty snug in there.
hopefully your getting the idea and its making sense so far
mix up some good smelling stuff. not too much hardner or it will harden too quick...
get messy and smear it in.
do a coat and let it dry. then apply more and more and build it all up
almost done sanding with the rotary vibrating sander thing
all done and painted
its not the prettiest but you get the idea and theres no doubt air wont get stuck in there and sucked it. we will dyno it in a few months compared to short ram/ blox velocity stack/filter

i would take pics of it installed but the head is off and the turbo is chillin on the counter right now. when i get a head gasket il put it all together...again. and then take pics.
.
if anyone else does this sort of thing. they should post pics for some more ideas

that's kinda bangin. Me like. I'd love to run one on mine just for the track, but I'd be embarassed to run a 16 with a missing headlight. If I had a faster car though, I'd definitely rock one for track use.
Are you just running regular metal charge piping to it? Are you driving it on the street and just running that on the track or something?

its a track car. the turbo is about 12 inches away at an angle so il have to get a curved peice of piping. or just a long curved custom silicone turbo coupler(big $)
