DIY 3pt Front Strut Bar - 3 Pics - 56K Friendly
PICS ON PAGE 3 NOW!!!
Alright guys...sorry this took so long to get the pics up...i've been busy this weekend putting my full suspension on...anyways...sorry for the dirty engine bay.
I didn't get a chance to take pics during the making, but here are some finished.
Cost:
$12.00 for 24 Feet of 1/2in. steel from local place - enough to make 3 of them.
Weight:
5.5 lbs
Construction:
First we make the first long cut across the front and tacked it to the 3in. pieces of angle iron. Next we cut a piece that went along the back where it mounted to the firewall. Then you make the pieces that connect the front piece to the firewall...tack weld those. Then you pretty much fill in the last couple pieces.
Sorry I didn't take more pics, but we were kinda on a time thing with this one.
Note:
On my 1997 HX we had to drill the holes where a stock Civic Si's strut tower bar would go...you may or maynot already have the holes there. The back holes on the firewall were already there, tapped and threaded, but had caps in them. Thread size was 6 x 1.00.
Here are the pics...ask away.
It made a HUGE difference!!!! I could totally tell between having it on and off. Not really sure how to explain how it felt different, but definately better.

Making Them:
Well I never really thought about making them for other people. I'll have to figure some stuff out and let everyone know. Who all would be interested and what would be a fair price?
Angles:
My Uncle and I kinda worked from the Benen and Carbing bars and then made sure it would clear the master cylinder and fuel filter and the angles kinda made themselves.
Cutting:
We used a standard chop box with a blade that is made to cut metal. Becareful cutting to much metal with a standard chop box though because the metal shaving will eventually ruin the box. We also had a grinder to help us out.

I would love to have on for my eg hatch. If you start to sell them make it kinda cheap casue no one wants to pay the 200 for the barbing and benen.
