Default Distributors: OBD1 - OBD2 interchangeable?

Also posted in the Hybrid forum: https://honda-tech.com/zerothre...38474

Ok...so here's my question. I'm helping my buddy with his obd1 jdm gsr swap in his 99 civic dx coupe. We used a 99 Si obd2 engine harness and since the obd1 distributor that came on the motor had the two plugs...we replaced it with a b16a obd2 dizzy. Will this work? I was under the impression that it would since it's a b-series vtec dizzy...just different obd's. The car turns over but does not start. When we swapped the dizzy's...I just unbolted the three bolts, pulled it out, then stuck the obd2 one on there and reinstalled the bolts. Could there be a timing issue?

yes they are the same. but if your car isnt firing then check for spark. the coil in the dizzy could be bad

obd1 vs obd2:
theyre not the same, youre right

there's a timing issue, if you didnt set it correctly

Ok...so this will work. Maybe when I installed the obd2 dizzy the two tabs on the round part sticking out of the dizzy where rotated 180 degrees? Maybe if I take it back off, turn the round part 180 degrees...this might work? He called me yesterday and said that he's not getting spark. I'll try this first.

Thank you

Do the dizzy wires match exactly with the harness plug?
You cant install it wrong, since the camshaft is keyed for it to fit one way only (one tab is fatter than the other)

Hmm...never thought of that. So you're saying that the obd2 dizzy plug wires need to match up directly accross from the obd2 engine harness plug?

I'll have to check on that.
