Distributor squeak?
A few weeks ago, my distributor started squeaking a lot and it seems like the car was going to bog out and die at times. So I thought somehow this could be rotor related and replaced it. It still squeaked, so I sprayed some wd-40 in there and the squeak went away. I always noticed that there wasnt any play on the shaft (the distributor key to the cam). Is that suppose to be normal? Because I could've sworn when I bought a new dizzy not too long ago, the shaft was suppose to have free play. Anyways I drove it for about 1-2 weeks and now my car is dead. I still have spark coming from the dizzy and fuel coming from the fuel rail line, and still no go. Is it possible to have a bad dizzy that still sparks and wont stay on to turn the car over? My car wants to turn over and sometimes it actually does, but just for about 3-5 secs and it'll die if let off the gas.

squeaking distributor means the bearing inside is going bad. replace the bearing if you're mechanically inclined or replace the distributor.
It could be two problems, but better to think through one before adding more to it.
do you have a CEL?
the ECU will cut fuel if it isn't seeing the distributor turn, which could be the case if the bearing goes bad and snaps off a sensor inside. (I don't remember which one gets damaged)
