Default Distributor replacement options for D16Y8

hey everyone, im new to these forums.

Recently bought a 2000 Civic Si (Canadian Model) and I was looking to do some tune up.

The engine code reads D16Y8 (I know the Canadian Si is the exact model of the US Ex)

I want to buy a new distributor but the stealership is asking too much so I was looking for one on ebay....anyone help me out? I found a few but just wanted to ask honda owners for their insight with regards to any specifications or anything like that, that I should look for before buying.

I'm mechanically inclined but just haven't switched out a distributor before

Thanks

Please take a minute to read the forum Rules sticky.

"New here" is an irrelevant thread title for your topic. Title edited.

He'll do it anyway to last him a little while. I mean, that's why he's asking right? And after a few of them he'll realize he could've bought that OEM unit.

okay I guess I'll go with OEM, don't want to take chances if there have been bad experiences with ebay parts.

thanks

Since when is replacing the entire distributor a tune up item? Is there an issue with it?

The distributor looks like it hasn't been changed in god knows how long. I don't have a misfire issue or anything just wanted to put a new one in, along with a new alternator, battery, spark plugs/wires.

you take care of it, itll take care of you

Don't replace it, if you wanna do a tune up: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, PCV, fluids, etc

Already replaced fuel filter and fluids. Kinda worried to touch the tranny fluid though.

Are NGK wires and plugs alot better than the OEM?

ngk plugs= oem. ngk wires are great, so are denso. the distributor is not a wear item, save your money. you can rebuild it much cheaper than if you bought new. if you want a spare, used OEM, no ebay or parts store trash.

World Power System distributors have always been good to me, they "make the best off board v8 distributors" so they say anyway.

listen to this carefully. Change the trans fluid, use a high quality transmission fluid. OEM, torco racing fluid, amzoil, something that's VERY GOOD.

dont cheap out on your trans fluid, its usually the most expensive part in your car

Here we go with this V8 crap.
No one asked about transmission fluid either.

Anything to raise that post count.

OP you can buy the internals, mostly just the icm and coil need to be replaced. Than you have the cap, rotor and spark plug wires and spark plug. Not the whole distributor.

Actually OP did kind of mention it. The fear of touching it. And you yell at others for not reading the threads...... *tsk* *tsk*

So true. I've been trying to discern whether it's just an attempt to live up to his character of "grumble" marc or the real deal of clinical depression aka glass is always half empty.

I'm still hoping for the former over the latter.

I think I can relate to that. Last few years I've been feeling that way myself.

Haven't figured out a good management system for this as of yet. Guess I should learn to work out or so I've been told.
