distributor advise needed
I'm about to buy a new distributor for my 94 civic. Its a stock car. Used for commuting. I found a new tec for 85 shipped. Is this a good brand?

Re: distributor advise needed
TEC is the OEM distributor used on many Honda Automobiles. My 1997 Accord Ex VTEC uses a Hitachi distributor and the electrical connectors are totally different than those on the TEC used on the DX and LX. Have you gone to Majestic Honda, or other dealer site, and checked to see what distributor is listed? You can always use the VIN number and you should be 100% good to go.... unless someone changed a component out and did not keep it totally stock for that year. Several Distributors have been listed on eBay as either TEC or Hitachi replacements, however, they are Chinese clones made to resemble either the TEC or Hitachi. I almost purchased one for $95.00 until I asked if it was genuine Hitachi.... the reply was it will work.... but it is a knock off.

That's probably what it is. I will check the sites your mentioned. I really don't want a knock off. But its just a beater car. I'm not trying to break the bank.

OK so majestic wants over 350 bucks. I'm going with an aftermarket. No other choice really.

Or if your in a $ pinch, junk yard is always an option.

Re: distributor advise needed
I did a juvk yard one. Worked for 40 miles and left me stranded. Ended up just buying a new reman from local parts store. It was getting rather cold and I was sick of driving the motorcycle to work in the winter.

Re: distributor advise needed
Just curious why do you need a new one?

Re: distributor advise needed
I got a cardone branded one from rockauto for $200. Worked well...had a lifetime warranty.

Re: distributor advise needed
The old one had cracks all in the wire harness.
