All parts are prone to go at one time or another.
The best replacement is to get a new or remanufactured oem one. Autozone also sells remanufactured one with some type of warranty.

Re: distributor? (92BlackSi)
On the moroso site there are 2 distributors a civic 1.5 L one and a civic SI 1.6 L
I have a 1.6 L civic ex... is it alright to go with the SI distributor?

I had a problem with my distributor recently, and I will say that you may want to search a little more before buying this parts, since per my experience the price may fluctuate a lot. (From low 100's to almost $400). Also check local stores they will even give you a discount if you take your old distributor back.
But also I was going to say check the parts of your distributor.... For example, I was getting ready to get $300.00 for a new distributor from the dealer, and after a research here and a lot of help from HT people (BTW Thanks !) i just replaced my coil and that was like $85.00 and since I'm short of cash that was a LOT of help... again just my 0.02C

i totally agree with FerioFan. check out the distributor first before dropping $ to get a new one. it may just be the coil or ignitor and that is a lot cheaper than buying a new dizzy.

Re: distributor? (dsmguy)
here is some more info, she has a 93 ex with the d16z6 engine. we were looking to upgrade the ignition system in the near future anyway. i saw on horsepower tv if any of you watch that. they had a civic project car and they upgraded the ignition system with ignition box, spark plug wires, power coil, and distributor. so i thought we would just get an upgraded distributor, but i was also wondering how much of a difference does the distributor make as far as performance? also has anyone else heard of civics having distributor problems? this is at least the second distributor that has gone out on this car, because the one that she got with the car when she bought it is not stock. it was replaced before.
sorry for the book but also i want to know if it is a weak point, because believe it or not driving my g/f car has started to pull me away from getting a dsm and getting a civic like hers instead, because of the price comparison.

From my experiences they can be a weak point, but mainly with the higher mileage engines. I saw the episode's with that green civic on Horsepower TV. I cant remember exactly what ignition they used but I think they used a stock distributor and added the MSD external coil and a few other MSD things. Im not sure though cause its been a while, but It cant hurt to upgrade the ignition system, it can only help.
