Default distributer question

Will a distributer from a d16zc work with a del sol si automatic? I know the del sol is a 1.6 vtec. but i am not sure if it is a d16z6.

The problem that i am having is that the del sol isnt starting. But it is getting power to the distributer but no spark. If there is anything else i should look for let me know thanks.

there is no codes. I got the distributer off of a friends junk car. It was odd i thought that it died also. I'm afraid if i purchase anouther i will burn that out.

if the ZC is VTEC it should work (b/c I think they had a VTEC and a non-VTEC model).

You could do what Rodney suggested and try the coil from another OBD-I VTEC car. I mean obviously if you're getting proper voltage to the dizzy but no spark, the problem is in the dizzy, which might be the igniter, coil, or ****, even a bad rotor if old enough can cause it not to fire.

If I had to place money (which I don't) I'd put it on the coil or the igniter, more likely the coil than the igniter.

Take the cap off and turn it over, make sure the rotor is actually spinning in case you broke the mainshaft on the dizzy or something.

I'm going to assume you replaced the rotor and cap already, if you haven't - do that - it's cheap. Then test the coil...I'm not sure if you can test a coil as I've never done it - but if you can - do it, or if it's cheap enough, replace it. If it's not the coil, new cap, new rotor, power to dizzy, rotor is spinning, then it's the igniter.

There is no such thing as a "d16zc", that was a typo.

Yes, the Del Sol's with a SOHC VTEC motor are D16Z6. The other VTEC Del Sols have a B series which will not work.

How do you know the distributer is bad? Did you test the coil and ignitor with a multimeter?

I'm not sure how this relates to your problem, but I had a bad coil driver in my AEM EMS that destroyed 2 coils on me in a row before I figured it out. Maybe your ECU is bad?

i called a honda service center. they told me maybe if the car had a bad main relay that the distributer miht not fire.

also i do have power to the disributer but no spark. i tried the original distributer on anouther sol that never had any problems and it didnt work. but when i switched back to my original distributer the car started up ran for about 5min died and wouldnt start. but i came back to it 15minutes latter and then it ran fine. Is there a way to install a distributer wrong? im kinda confused.

Sounds like the main relay to me. If its never been changed, its prolly time. Could also be the grounding point behind the dizzy near the water inlet. Take the bolt loose and clean the cluster of ground wires.
