Disc Brake swap questions
Hey, i have a CDN 2000 Honda Civic DX Hatchback with drums in the back...
I also have a CDN 2000 Honda Civic SiR for parts.
I would like to swap the rear discs from the SiR to my hatch.
1 - Would you guys recommend swapping these while leaving the front brakes stock?
2 - Will all the parts i need for the swap be on the SiR, or will i need to source out parts from other cars?
3 - I read in a thread here somewhere that i DO NOT need to swap the trailing arm, can anyone confirm this?
4 - As a beginner, can i handle this job by myself? im feeling pretty confident.
And lastly, does anyone know of a DIY thread for this exact swap?
Thanks!

Re: Disc Brake swap questions
Its a simple swap, just unbolt and bolt up, but be prepared for breaking bolts off in bushings and being able to deal with it

But unless you race or drive like a maniac there is absolutely no advantage doing a rear brake disk swap at all.
The balance should be 30% of the front brakes, which drums can do without problems unless the above driving methods apply.
If you just WANT em, go ahead.

Yes it's totally doable.

Tired of looking at the drum through the big gaps in the rim. LOL.
Also, if i successfully do the rear, maybe i will learn enough to attempt the front swap.

Re: Disc Brake swap questions
just expect to have to buy some new bolts and bushings at the very least. and try very hard not to strip the brake lines.
i just finished this, same reason, i just cant stand looking at drums. its easy as **** on paper, but my car was down over a week because i kept needing parts and tools as **** went wrong. just expect the worst and hope for the best. its not too bad.

What parts did you have to buy? I would like to be prepared.
Its always the same with my car, every bolt is siezed, need to grind everything out. Then Honda is always closed.

Re: Disc Brake swap questions
I agree with 94EG8 that it will be easier to swap trailing arms. I just completed this swap using 00 Integra trailing arms on to my 00 Civic.
I ended up swapping the spindle on one side due to the one of the Integra trailing arms being damaged. In the process of swapping the spindles over, I broke 6 T50 torx bits in order to get the spindle off the Integra trailing arm. I had to use a lot of heat and PB Blaster to get all 4 T50 torx bolts free using an electric impact gun. This was not fun at all so just swap the arms.
Some advice for you:
1. Consider replacing the trailing arm bushings on the SiR trailing arm before you swap it over. Chances are that they are old and may even be ripped. Since you'll have the arms off the car, this would be the best time to change them.
2. In the states, there is a product called Evapo-Rust™ that I used to clean the rust off all rusty items. This product worked wonders and was well worth the money (google it for more info).
3. Consider taking the SiR parts off before you touch your car. That way you can see what is involved and you can recondition all the parts you want to reuse. This swap is not hard, just make sure you have a jack with jack stands, wheel chucks (keep the car from rolling), and an assortment of sockets and wrenches (19mm, 17mm, 14mm, 12mm, 10mm). To remove brake lines, you need to get either a 10mm flare nut wrench or a 10mm crows foot wrench.
Good luck.

Re: Disc Brake swap questions
well if you want lca's for one, now would be a good time. i ended up replacing mine because the bolts snapped and i had to saw and drill them out which destroyed the lca bushings. i got blox ones for 99 shipped, saved a lot of headache and also in my case allowed me to add a rear sway bar which im loving.

Re: Disc Brake swap questions
I already have wicked tuning rear camber and toe kit, Function7 LCA's, ASR Brace, ASR 24MM sway, Function7 end links.
All this stuff should swap over to the SiR trailing arms?
I DO have another hatch that already has rear discs from an SiR. I didnt do the swap obviously and I only use the car for winter driving here in Canada... Im wondering if it would just be easier to swap the discs off the one hatch to mine, and my discs onto the other hatch...
Or i guess it would be the exact same as using the stuff from my SiR...
