Disappearing CEL (CEL) Check Engine Light
I have a D16Z6 running a chipped P28 running Crome.
Every once in awhile I'll get a CEL, but as soon as I turn the car off and turn it back on the CEL is cleared.
Take yesterday for example. I was driving my car and it started to bog around 3500rpm. WOT or partial throttle, as soon as I got to 3500 it started to bog.
I got to my friend's house, turned off the car, restarted it, and it revved up to 7k just like it normally will.
I pulled the cap off (or cover at least, the part that has the plug wires connected to it and the 2 screws.) The metal prongs were slightly corroded, as well as the axe blade looking thing on the distributor. Other than that slight corrosion where there's constant contact the metal was clean.
I assume the disappearing CEL is a wiring problem, but I'm at a complete loss as to where to start looking to correct this problem.

Re: Disappearing CEL (CEL) Check Engine Light (Everyones Hero)
Bump.
I'm really stumped on this. Checked all fuses. I'm going to start looking around for any loose wires and check to see if there's a constant current getting to the ECU.

Thanks. I'll look into that this weekend.
I'm re-wiring my PLX M300, checking continuity to the ECU while the car is off, ect this weekend. I'm going to find out WTF is up or I'm going to go crazy trying.
I kinda like the random CELs because I think of it as an anti-theft device. Get rolling, can't go over 3500. "Cars a piece of ****, expletive this!"

Thats the exact same thing that happens in my VX. I just put a paper click in my car one day in case my CEL came on to diagnose it and it came up with code 48 which is the LAF (lean air fuel sensor)
