Direct Fit Manifold Convert - wtf is that?
This is a continuation of a previous thread, but now i have different questions. Girlfriend dropped car off, and the quote for 2 motor mounts and a direct fit monifold convertor is 1,500.
The issue is that the header is cracked (see image). She needs to replace this, which i've found for $80 on ebay etc... So, being that as far as I know, this is the header, and is all that's busted. So whats up with the Direct Fit Manifold Convertor? Is this #4 on the other image, can we get by without it if we buy the performance headers?
What kind of cheap options do we have?

If you get an aftermarket exhaust manifold, that will be replaced. The stock cats are definitely expensive; $400-500 last time I checked (my '94 CX manifold is cracked and hasn't been replaced because I don't want to spend that kind of $ for a new cat). But then it depends on what state you live in and what kind of emissions testing they do. You might be able to get away without getting a cat at all, and just hooking up the new manifold to your stock exhaust. Or you may have to get a "regular" cat, and fit it in between the new manifold and the exhaust (probably just means you'd have to have the exhaust shortened and some flanges welded on).

I would suggest going with an 80 dollar cat and taking it to a mufler shop to mount every thing up because that particular exhaust system has no space for a cat so they would have to ad a cat flange and shorten the pipe for you to fit an after market cat on then you can just bolt that up to the header

Buy ya a universal cat online and get a cheap OBX header off ebay for your car and you'll be $$$ ahead and get much better performance over OE. Have an exhaust shop weld it up, should set you back more than $250 for everything!

Is that first pic your engine? Looks like a B series, block stamp looks like it says B16A5?
If so you don't need an exhaust manifold with integrated catalytic convereter. Just get one for a B16 or whatever engine you've go there.
