Default Dipstick on d16y8?

I've done some research with not much luck. I have a 98 civic ex coupe with the stock d16y8. Bought it about a month and half ago and was it just had the timing belt done. I saw that it did not have the upper timing cover so the timing gear was exposed. The research I've done said that's what holds the dipstick tube in place? Is this true? I was going to take my brothers upper timing cover off from his 95 civic si hatch d16z6 but clearly his dipstick tube is in front of the block by the header. I'm going to buy the small o-ring that goes on the stick itself and some sealing stuff what should I use?

i have the same problem with my 97 the upper timing cover does hold it in place, use some high temp silicone it seems to be working good for me. the o ring is supposed to hold it in the motor but it doesnt work very well as you can tell ha.
