difficulties rebuilding a d series tranny
I bought a d series manual tranny for 50 bucks today (good price )
however the guy mentioned it had about 80k miles..
im thinking about making this a project to learn and try to rebuild it myself. or get it done (no real concern for time soo this will be fun)
i want to make sure this tranny is strong when i put it in for my auto to manual conversion.

You shouldn't have any problems with a 80k miles tranny as long as it wasn't driven too hard. As far as a rebuild you could replace all the bearings and syncros but that will cost alot and if the tranny is in good shape there is no need to replace anything.

if it's all in good condition, go ahead and put it right on. good luck on your auto-to-manual.

check over all the synchro's (the gold thingy's with teeth on them) and make sure they look okay...also when you take the gears out spin all of the bearings and make sure they are all smooth and dont click...if they click, they need to be replaced. At the absolute LEAST...you should replace the input shaft bearing...which I did on my car and it fixed several problems...

the actual synchros usually don't go bad, it's the sleeves that slide over the brass synchro ring. These wear more often than the brass gear.....just to let you know
