Difficult cold starts
When i go to start my car when its cold i need to give it gas and let it idle at 2000 rpms for a min or so
if i let go of the gas the car stalls
i thought it was the battery so i got a new one but it still didnt start right up
anyone have any ideas???

Re: Difficult cold starts (vtec69)
my car idles really high automatically (probably around 2K, i don't have a tach though) when i first start my car in the morning. maybe its an ECU problem?

Re: Difficult cold starts (vtec69)
the reason why it idles higher when the engine is cold is so that the engine can warm up quicker. once it reaches normal operating temp, the idle should return back down to normal. by the way, is your car carbureted? what car/year? maybe you're not getting enough gas, when it's cold, the engine runs richer.

Re: Difficult cold starts (Spoon Hybrid)
what tobody setup do you have? some of the older tbodys off the tegs did not have a air valve, not sure if thats what the exact name is but thats what its called on my ae86. anyways along side the aicv is the air valve, coolant runs through it and it has a spring in it with wax. whent he coolant get warms the spring releases or somehting and the idle goes down. either your missing this or it could be damaged. it should be located on the underside of the throttlebody. just a possibility.

Re: Difficult cold starts (Spoon Hybrid)
Perhaps you need to tighten your throttle cable?
Maybe worth a try to clean out your injectors/fuel system.
Good luck man.

dude cars do this normally in the morning. it idles normally when the cars warm right? The computer knows the engine is cold because the signal from the ECT (engine coolant temp)sensor says so. In turn the computer tells the IAC (intake air control) to open the throttle plate open so the engine can warm faster. Just some knowledge for the one that didnt know why cars did this.
