That is a pretty open ended question! The are many different heads for different series of engines, both vtec and non

Most commonly, people swap vtec heads onto non vtec blocks, because they are higher flow making more power. Added wiring, oil lines and changing your ecu would also be needed

the big difference used to be saving money. now people found that unreliable so cost has gone up for the sake of reliability. the big difference now is a block with more displacement. but thats just what I think

My last car was a 96 Civic Hatch with CRV B20Z engine. I bought a different head for it for higher flow. Called a P8R, it has oem 33mm oversize valve, same as dohc vtec heads, and also had the same flow as a vtec head, without any other modifications!

I saw one with ctr cams and a tune put down 190 @wheels.
Stock other then that, of corse had rod bolts/head studs
