I can't believe no one taken a hairy on this yet, I guess it's still early. You can believe that a b series engine is the way to go but through some proofs in for the guy asking the question. D series engines are not a waste of time. if your trying to produce over 200 HP, a B series may be the way to go. otherwise, the D series are cheaper, sometimes torquier (at equal HP #'s), and lighter while being easy to make some decent numbers. a d series engine will hold it's own against a B series engine that technically has more power because of this.
Quick rundown...
D15B7 is the base engine that came in LX/DX civics from 92-95. puts out something like 102 HP and 98 torque. d15B is a japanese engine, has VTEC and produces around 130 hp. apparently it's fun engine to drive and some of the trannys came with LSD's. D16Z6 is the engine found in 92-95 si's (in the US) , and EX's. it's also a VTEC engine that has a very good flowing head, produces about 125 hp. D16y8 was in 96-2000 EX's. has a better flowing intake manifold than the Z6, produces 128 hp.
I hope that's some help.

Re: Differences between I/M (kKdARIAN)
The D16y8 flows the best. It is a very cheap but good upgrade for any D-series. You will feel a little in the pants gain but the dyno will show the improvement all through the powerband. At least that's what happened to Hatch-E here on H-T.

that's cause you're a cheap bastard with no mechanical or tuning skills....so you go the easy route and swap, and probably still get beat on by real tuners with D series

yah.... thats what all you "no-nothing" yahoo's say, they always go the easy way and buy all their power cause they don't know how to tune!!!!!
there's not much that can beat a good turbo set-up on a Z6 or Y8.........in terms of price!!!......
