Is this C401?
This is the only connector I can find behind the left kick plate that looks remotely like the view I have of it in the shop manual. However, instead of 18, it has 20 cavities, and none of the wire colors match those in the shop manual.
This seems to be C401 but wire colors don't match those in shop manual.
And here's the pinout from the shop manual:

The manual says this is supposed to be a gray connector behind the left kick plate and connects the main wiring harness to the floor harness. Anyone know what's going on, here? Am I reading something incorrectly?
The reason I'm doing this is to track down a bad connection in the brake lights. I've got 12V at the brake switch, and continuity across the NO terminals 3 & 4 of it when the pedal is depressed. So far so good. The next connector that I should be checking is C442. However, it's up behind the right dash and I'm not sure how to get the dash off. So I thought I'd check it at the next connector in line, which is C401. So if there's a common culprit in the harness that I can directly check, that would also be good to know.
Edit: Be aware that, since the plunger on the switch is normally depressed when the brake pedal is *not* depressed, it can lead to confusion when examining the switch when not installed. Pins 3&4 are listed in the manual as NO, but that is only on the installed switch. When not installed, pins 3&4 are normally-closed (NC).

Which year civic do you have, we can only assume it's a 99 or 2000 based on the FSM page you posted. Which trim level do you have?

It is indeed a '99 Civic EX (w/ the 4-pin brake switch for cruise, which just so happens to flip the function of pins 1 & 2 between model trims. argh!).

Unfortunately, I only have the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM) for the 5th gen cars (92-95). I don't believe C401 is consistent through the next generation.
I can look it up and see where it says the plug is, just not sure it will be relevant.

Thanks. If it's handy I'd like to see what this C401 connector looks like on the 5th generation. That'll be very strange if the wire colors match my connector.

OK. I think I found it up there behind that mounting bracket that's pulled out. Guess I was looking too low, or reluctant to believe some designer would be sadistic and tuck it up in there. LOL. Thanks!
