Default Difference between intake kit and drop in filters?

I am thinking of either getting a K&N drop in filter or an AEM intake kit. Do they have significant differences in terms of performance? Also, what is the difference between cold air intake and short ram intake?

if you do a drop in it will be quieter, where as an aftermarket intake is louder.

honestly i didnt see any diff in the ram air and the drop in other than sound

Not much of a difference HP wise. I'm sure a cold air intake will pick up a few extra HP over a drop in.

A conical filter sounds cooler.
