Default Difference between exhaust systems for 96-00 civic DX/HX and EX?

well i just picked up an apexi exhaust system for 200$ (cheap) but it was meant for an 96-00 civic si/ex. however i have a HX and it's basically the same as the DX (cat on the header) so i was wondering what exactly is the difference and what i would have to modify to make that exhaust system fit onto my HX. thank you in advance, much help is appreciated

I don't know why it wouldn't fit. Maybe if the exhaust was originally meant for a coupe, it might be a little long on a hatch

yeah i would see the same scenerio also about the coupe vs. hatch, but i've always seen the 96-00 dx always having its own exhaust system aside from the 92-00 ex/si, and always had people telling me i'm not sure if it'll fit on the HX/DX. but never recieved a straight answer.

I had the same problem only my car is an 96 EX and I tried to put a DX exhaust on it. Here's the difference, because the cat is in the header on the DX/HX's the exhaust bolts right to the header. Got it?

On the EX, the cat is after the header and the exhaust bolts on the Cat. There fore the DX/HX exhaust is longer then what it would be for an EX/Si.

I installed the DX exhaust by removing the cat all together, thus throwing a code. I then later got a cat welded in at a local shop.

Here's a lil drawing. Bare with me. This is a DX setup.

|| <--Cat in header.
\
\ ___}_____________------out the back of the car

Here is an EX:

| < Header without cat
|
\
\___{_CAT____}[__________________------Out the back of the car.

Hope that helps, because I have now gone cross eyed.

In addition to the beautiful ASCII art above I beleive that the flange on the DX exhaust is different from the flange on the EX cat. One is three bolt, the other is two bolt. I remember seeing that in the service manual, but I am doing this from memory as I do not have a book in front of me to reference.
