To kick off the first day of my spring break my buddy Tom and I did some test fits of my turbo setup that will be going in very shortly.

tdo5h 14b attatched to the stock dsm o2 housing with a custom manifold that my buddy helped me out with making
(thanks tom ), the welds arent the greatest as you can see but it'll get the job done. Before we welded the exaust flange we must've fitted it ten times before we were sure everything would clear the a/c.


notice how close the dsm o2 housing comes to hitting the a/c compressor, it fit like a glove


o2 housing under the car, dont even have to cut the fan Although we might have to cut the shroud a little when we put the wastegate actuator in


Look how perfectly one of the stock dsm intercooler brackets lines up inside where the intake resonator belongs. I'm going to use that as one of the mounting points, the others will probably be zip ties

Pic of the sidemount zip-tied on, it'll be installed cleaner when its there to stay This intercooler was not modified at all to fit the civic, its funny how well this mitsubishi piece fits.

Here's the bend comming from the 14b compressor outlet, everyone says using a 14b is a bitch because of the outlet since the bend is usually very harsh. I can imagine how hard it woud have been if the compressor housing was on the driver's side like most homemade turbo setups. The compressor housing WAS NOT rotated. All we did was cut the stock dsm flange at the bottom that goes to the compressor outlet, connected radiator hose to it and put a 90° bend of mandrel bent piping on other end of the hose and rotated it to accomodate the rest of my piping.


Somewhat of a final product with the charge pipes(we didnt weld the BOV flange onto the piping yet, we just placed it there for picture purposes) The piping wasnt secured tightly thats why there seems to be that small dip in the upper ic pipe, that'll be gone once everything is fit permanently.

looking good, but you should probably get that bov welded into place, otherwise you will probably leak some boost.

Whoah, im glad everything fit in perfectly like you said. Didn't think everything would fit right in but nice pics! im glad everything went in well for ya. Can't wait to see that thing boost. Careful now, You're going to get " turbo foot" and you might go boost happy n blow something up ( knock on wood ). Glad to see its coming along just fine. I'll see you when i get back into town.

did you get that manifold custom made? cuz that doesnt look efficient of flow looks like alot of traffic thats gonna be going on b4 it goest to the collector which means back pressure which means spool up is not gonna be so great.. its just how i look at it.. did you try to start the car with the manifold just on? to see if the flow is somewhat good...from what i see your gonna be forcing port 1 and 4 against each other and 3 and 4 is being faced into a wall it doesnt have any directional at all.. id like to see how it is let us kno

looks....homemade....but for piecing it together and getting everything to work. I bet it cost a shitload less than a pre-made turbo kit. How much boost do you plan to run with your setup? Also, what are all the parts and stuff you used to make your kit (this question might help others that are in search of making their own homemade kit)?

I had my friend help me with making the manifold, I know its not the most efficient manifold...it was the first one he made. We'll try it out and if it causes any major backpressure problems we'll just make another one, no big deal.

I'm planning about running 7-8psi for now, 10psi at the track once I swap out that damn slushbox.

..still need to order the oil-lines so I dont have an exact list for those.

That's a pretty good parts list. If you don't mind me asking, how much did all of that run you? Also, did you rebuild your turbo before install (I assume the turbo was used...)?

didnt cost me much I have A LOT of friends who upgrade their dsms so they just give me their old parts heh.

Looks close to the set up featured in the current honda tuning mag. i wonder if the HF manifold would work better than a custom set up..
just adding my input..looks nice tho..

That flange was made in the same garage those pics were taken in Its made from a mild steel and was made using a drill press.

I didnt use hf manifold(I do have one sitting around, I was planning on using one)
purely based on that I'll have no a/c, I barley use my a/c but the times I use it I REALLY need it. It gets very hot and humid in chicago. This car is a daily driver, a STREET car. 99% of the time I'll be driving it around town to get me to where I need to be. My goal with it is to be as streetable as possible without loosing any of the creature comforts it has. Once it is gone from daily driving duties maybe that'll change. If I feel that efficency is a major problem for me then I can always redesign the manifold, not like it'll cost me much.
