Already Did A Search for tach Intstall.

Was wondering if someone had a quick explanation where to wire a 5" tach. Like to what wire goes where. Thanks.

JDM Like Whoa 08-17-2004 12:09 PM

any pics at all guys? Or even an explanation what wire goes to what fuse?

Come on... Nobody knows what wires to run wherE?

Frozen E 08-17-2004 02:01 PM

do an archive search for "tach install" in this forum.

Re: (ImportRacr05)

just get a EX/SI gauge cluster it comes with a tach and its plug and play

JDM Like Whoa 08-17-2004 02:22 PM

Maybe I wanna rev a little higher than the tach goes.

Go there...you need Adobe Reader though.

Got everything but the green wire done. What does that run to. People said on the back of the instrument panel, there is a blue wire running. Would it be the one with the yellow plug that has the blue wire in it or the big longer plug with the blue wire in it.

Re: (ImportRacr05)

I wired mine to the solid blue wire that is by the driver side fender in the top corner by the strut. I don't know which one it is in the cluster.

JDM Like Whoa 08-17-2004 02:54 PM

I looked by the fender and theres numerous wires ther.

PLAN:B 08-17-2004 02:59 PM

Re: (ImportRacr05)

Well it should be the only solid blue one. If it's not, then try all of the blue ones. Thats the fun of Do It Yourself work.

civicsicko 08-17-2004 03:06 PM

it depends if you have a tach in your gauge cluster right now or not.. if you dont then its located by your right strut, by the ignition coil. it is a blue wire, that runs dead end into a rubber piece, just dig around in the wires and you should find it simply enough

JDM Like Whoa 08-17-2004 03:13 PM

Well, Theres already an indash, I would like this one hooked up to go higher. Theres a yellow plug and a blue plug that go in back of the instrument panel. Both have blue wires. Which one will I get an RPM reading from?

PLAN:B 08-17-2004 03:46 PM

Re: (ImportRacr05)

Your rpm's don't go higher by plugging in an external tach.

Re: (mEKsican)

But no..... UGH.... I want a tach that can read more RPM's, Indash stops too early.

Re: (ImportRacr05)

OEM tachs are off by around 800 rpms in purpose so unaware drivers won't overrev their motors. Tap the green wire into the SOLID blue wire with a black plastic cap over it which is like a foot away from the firewall on the driver side fender.

if you still cant find the wire to tap to, go directly to the distributor and tap the wire to the (-) pole of the ignition coil. Just hide the wire into existing harnesses.

Is that true...my old autometer was pretty close to my stock tach

JDM Like Whoa 08-17-2004 08:21 PM

got it... but in the process of setting the light... blew the clutch w00t. Exedy ceramitallic is now on order.

Re: (japspecjohn)

Depends on where you hook it up, if you tapped into the wire behind your gauge cluster where your OEM tach is at, of course it'll give you a close or similar reading, you tap directly into the ignition coil and you get a much accurate reading

Uh huh.. Yah. Shut up. Its going to the machine shop this winter. Spoon ITR pistons, ITR shot peened rods, port and polish on the head, skunk2 cams springs and retainers, skunk2 intake manifold... more to come. New exedy clutch to put down some power.

Basically its gonna be a mild built. But I am hoping to make some power up there after tuning.
