Your tranny is the lowest thing motorwise on the car. Check that first.

Only one way to find out if thats the case..... drop the oil pan

Check for a ground wire that might have come lose would be my first look. After you drop the oil pan if its still good up there check the head.

Thats what i would do

Drop you tranny and make sure you starter is on straight and none of the wires are lose..check the ground wire that grounds the tranny..its a good one..always ***** people up the ground...

Silly question, but did you remove your spark plugs before trying to turn the crank? Not that they would totally prevent it from turning...

well u have alot of compression so turning it over by hand wont be the easiest thing, but it should. like the one person said, try removing the plugs and turning it over.

as for the noise who knows really, until it is pulled apart.

did your timing belt break? Maybe a piston is stuck up against a valve(s).

Look at the spark plugs, that happened to me once, all the power in my SOHC ( ) ended up rattling them free

That the transmission could also be giving you problems.

i'll be very impressed if you can turn your motor over by hand w/ the plugs in.

how much oil was in your engine when it stopped?

He has a built GSR with 11.5:1 comp. Gonna be quite a bit harder than a stock D15.

yeah you guys are funny. You should be able to at least hear it build compression without putting any power behind it. You must of melted the bearing onto the crank, or something else happened to it

really question where did the sound come from engine or trans- even though they were "rebuilt" dosnt mean some thing wasnt done incorrectly and bottoming out cased it to fail prematurly .

because the oil pickup is like 2mm (not that close but damn close) away from the bottom of the oil pan you could have starved you motor of oil, from the dent blocking the pick up thus decreasing the efficiency of the oiling system.

I agree. I'd drop the oil pan and check to make sure. If you say it happened shortly after bottoming out it could have pinched something off. BTW, to whomever suggested that it was the starter, read a little (cough...A LOT... cough) more carefully.
