Diagnosis help: 92 VX Check engine light stays on.
First of all, the car is completely stock.
I was told that it might be the o2 sensor, but I think that was replaced before I bought it or at least it looks like it has been replaced. Anyway, the car still drives, but it seems to be using a lot of gas. Almost like the vtec isn't kicking in properly.
Will the O2 sensor cause the check engine light to stay on?
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes very possible. Also I believe the VX has 2 02 sensors. Check the code, if it's a 42 I believe that's the 02 sensor heater, so replace it.

the VX only has 1 o2 sensor, but I had an o2 sensor go bad on my VX and it did turn the Vtec off. With the Vtec off the gas milage went down the tubes...
Do yourself a favor and swap that eninge( I did), you can't find any parts for that engine that are worth the $$.. The car is Sooo perfect for a swap( much better the a CX IMO) you already have a tach( no need for an ugly 5" tach) Turboing that engine is a very bad idea, the rods are very very thin.
But i do have to admit, that engine is tough as nails when it comes to reliabilty, I went over 18 months without an oild change just to see how long it would go, I have a 50 round trip to and from work 5 days a week!!!

Re: Diagnosis help: 92 VX Check engine light stays on. (92 civic VX B18c)
I agree with everything you said regarding the swap, I may at some point go with a b18c1. Prices seem to be coming down on them.
I bought the VX for the gas mileage. I got it from the original owner whose wife drove it back and forth to work. It is a little beat up on the exterior, but the interior is cherry.
R/g the oil change. That is too funny. In college, I did the same thing to a 91 Accord. When I got rid of it (100K+) later, the dash lights were blinking like a Christmas tree.
Thanks again for the info! BTW did your check engine light come on?
