i reached to my coolant and didn't realize that a freind of mine had left dex cool at my house and started to fill my radiator and got a little in the radiator maybe a tbl spoon in before i noticed the color should i be worried? my coolant that i use says that it is compatible with any color. i should be okay shouldn't i?

so you filled your resisvor with dex cool and just a tad in your radiator? if so your fine.

no i got about a tablespoon of it in the radiator. i had my system partially drained because i had the throttle body off of the car. i got about a table spoon in the radiator before i noticed it and the coolant in my car says it is compatible with all colors. i just wanted to know if anyone thought that i would be a problem or not? i supposed that the little of the amount would get watered down.

i just don't want it to turn to sludge or something. i had heard that they don't mix well. i am not worried about the cooling properties. i have a fluidyne and fan. i just am worried about the red brick associated with the mix of the two

no just probably a table spoon it wasn't much i didn't want to spill it so i was watching it. definently not a gallon just a little pour. it won't ruin my motor or my fluidyne will it?

I know that in gm vehicles that if you accidently put the regular antifreeze in that it can eat seals. I had a friend that put some in his truck and it messed up an o-ring and the dealer fixed it but said if it happened next time they wouldn't cover it under warranty.

no, it will not ruin your motor. with the little you put in there, you are completely fine. my daily (toyota pickup) has been running run of the mill green prestone for 3 years. a few months ago i put a timing chain, h20 pump etc in it, and decided to run the proper antifreeze, dexcool. zero issues with it, with either coolant.

btw toyotas run on their own coolant it's not dexcool and it doesn't sludge up. You can mix coolants it doesn't matter. Dexcool is the worst **** ever, so are GMs.

You will be fine either way.

i went ahead and pulled my radiator off. the coolant hadn't even thought about going up my lower radiator hose so i flushed it and ate the $15 in Purple Ice went to the parts store and bought Water Wetter and started over.

er.. i have a factory GM manufactured Harrison radiator in my toyota... but, i digress.

Dex-cool is an OAT coolant, Organic Acid Technology. It works through controlled corrosion. I don't think a tiny amount will matter but, I wouldn't run Dex-Cool in something that wasn't specifically designed for it. Just like I wouldn't Run prestone green in a Honda.

water wetter is some good stuff if you have overheating problems that you can't cure. I put it in my truck ant it doesn't overheat anymore when I do some heavy towing.

i am running water wetter because i am supercharged and running a 160 degree thermo to drop temps. the jackson racing manual says to run water wetter too. but i had always ran it.

It's not designed for a Honda for one thing. It's a generic that may or may not meet Honda's recommendations. Coolant isn't regulated like oil or brake fluid. You have no clue whether it'll hurt the cooling system or seals or not. Does it have Silica in it? Should a Honda have Silica in it's coolant (the answer's yes and no). If you want Silica free prestone, you have to use "Prestone® Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant".

Run whatever makes you happy. Oil and Brake fluid, run whatever you want. An SG oil has to meet the requirements for SG. Dot3 had to meet the requirements for Dot3. Power steering fluid, you have to run the Honda stuff (or the stuff thats says it's made for Honda PS). Coolant? I'd run the honda stuff.

Almost all coolants out there in [major use] are ethylene glycol based, you may see approx 5% composition difference between different kinds and formulas in the type of anti-corrosion agent they use; there are OAT (organic acid technology), HOAT (hybrid oat), silicates, etc.

Specification G 05 fluid is perhaps one of the best fluids for any car, even diesel, its an HOAT, it resists cavitaion much better than a straight OAT. Mercedes and John deere and other companies have been using G 05 for years without fail. I've been using G 05 in my civic for the past 4 years without fail.

And yes, G 05 does have very small amounts of silicate in it, this is what helps it control cavitation better than a straight OAT such as toyota long life, honda long life, and dex-cool types and clones of dexcool etc (the main difference between the dex-cool type coolants is whether it uses potassium 2-ethylhexanoate or sodium 2-ethylhexanoate, both function the same as the primary corrosion inhinitor in a dexcool 'OAT' type coolant)
