My suggestion, don't do it. No point in it if you are just going to do it half assed.

I agree with jaysonx. What little you will be able to remove will come from the trunk area, and that little bit is not even worth messing with. When it comes to lightening a del sol, you will have to go above and beyond all reasonable efforts because of the initial weight of the car due to the reinforcement needs from the targa top. Sure it can be done, but not without doing what you do not want to do. If you want to better your power to weight ratio, you are better off just cranking out as much power as possible as far as the del sol is concerned because what little you can take out is not worth taking out. So you are better off leaving the weight reduction process alone.

weight reduction in the sol is pointless, unless its just a drag car. the weight in the sol is mostly the front and middle. the only way you can lighten the front of the sol is to keep, or get a smaller engine (D series). its good to keep the weight in the middle for a close 50/50 ratio (kinda like the MR2). the weight in the trunk (interior, spare , etc.) helps balance the weight in the front. if you have a custom roll cage built for your sol, then go ahead and take out some weight in the middle. the cage will just balance it out, but you're gonna need a lot of power to push a sol around. its heavy as it is, stock. just my thoughts.
