Default the delicate marriage of spring and shox! help.

i just recently installed my TEIN SS's for my 00' coupe. full interior, stock weight.
i enjoy them but they arent everything i had hoped they would be.
i was looking for a stiffer setup. not bouncy but hard/stiff.(i dont know how to explain)
my dampers are 16 ways adjustable and the spring rates are as follows: 8K front and 4K in the rear. i have been experimenting with settings to get a good balance between low body roll and comfortable ride. i have yet to find what im hoping for.

i had the dampers set on full hard in hopes of getting what i was looking for, instead i got a very rough ride. BOUNCY, not STIFF. it was like being on blown shocks again.

the body roll under hard cornering was improved, but i was bouncing all over the place.

my question is this: What makes it bounce like that?

MY THEORY is this:
the spring rates are too low for the stiffest setting on the damper.

SO: if I uprgraded to 10K in front and 6K in the rear(which is the max without hurting anything) will i get the ride im looking for??

is my theory correct?

should i invest another $200 in higher rates?
I'm willing to give up ride quality for better handling, but when i say ride quality i mean hitting bumps and having it feel like i have a solid rod for struts/springs. not bouncing all over the place, like a carnival ride.

a simple informative thread on the marriage of springrates, to struts would also probly help.

im sorry about the novella, but this has been bugging me quite a bit. i should be more happy with this investment.

Have you tried the softest setting on the shock yet?

not yet,
i have tried these,
*8 clicks counterclockwise from full hard(which is what the instructions say)
*all the way clockwise(horrendously bouncy)
*right now i am at 4 clicks counterclockwise from full hard.(still not right)

stiff but not boucny? you don't make sense.

if you want a comfy ridse then set it on soft. if you want good handling, set it to be stiffer.

i think this explains it

"I'm willing to give up ride quality for better handling, but when i say ride quality i mean hitting bumps and having it feel like i have a solid rod for struts/springs. not bouncing all over the place, like a carnival ride."

Stiffer springs should help with the bounciness, but properly valved dampers are also key

i have the JIC FLTA-2 in my 00 coupe. they came with 10k in the front and 7k in the rear. it rides very nice, but this winter I'm going to pick up a set of 14k and play around with them. those spring rates you listed that they came with are pretty weak IMO, granted I'm still trying to get my set up up properly so I may not be the best to ask!

you stated that 10k front and 6k rear is the max you can go with tein? would this be true with my JIC's? I have never heard of this. JIC said I could run 16k+

It all depends on the damper.

what height are you riding at, i would think that the lower you go the more bouncy the ride would become, maybe you should raise your car up a little?

it is at the specified height from the manual.
30mm of thread showing, 90mm of ground clearance.

about the JIC, like it was stated above, its all about the damper and what it is designed to handle. my teins wont handle more than 2K extra on front and rear. without damaging the damper.

sounds to me like you have low rebound damping, fast rebound, or stiff *** springs!!
