Is this Del Sol worth it?(no 56K!!)
Hey guys, ive come across a Del Sol that I am considering trading for my 95 240sx. Here are the specs and pics on the sol:
car has 150xxx miles on it and motor has 45000
motor-stock ls
turbo kit-
inline pro mani
turbonetics T3/T4
RC 450 cc injectors
tial 38mm wg
HKS bov
custom piping
spearco intercooler (painted flat black)
Greddy oil catch can
2 1/2in turbo back piping
Fluidine dual core rad with slim fan
Ported intake mani
ACT stage 1 clutch
lightened flywheel
Tuned with chrome at philly dyno works put down 287/243 at 14psi (only run at 10daily)
exterior-
JDM one piece headlights
cf hood
cf trunk
wheels/suspension-
15' racing sparco speeder NS-II's
skunk2 full coilover setup
tenzo front and rear strut bars
skunk 2 camber kit front n rear
omni LCA's
interior-
plx gauge type wideband
glow shift boost gauge, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp
knockoff spoon steering wheel
spoon shiftknob
panasonic headunit and sony components
Security-
Compustar 2w900 with one remote and pager system, also has built in turbo timer
New stuff-
Dizzy and wires
Rear calipers and pads
Water pump
Car runs great and pulls hard, no smoke or burning oil…compression is perfect and wideband reads where it should, exterior has one big ding in the pass rear quarter panel and some other misc dings
Now, Ive been in this car and its fast as hell. It was on 12psi and he was smoking the tires from a 40 roll. It pulls hard as hell! The exterior of the car is shot. It looks as if its been Maaco'd, with the paint peeling and bubbling in many places. There are also many dings and one big dent. The door jams and engine bay appear to have been rattle canned black.
Now to my car:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is my 1995 240sx Zenki. It is the base, 5 speed, model. I picked it up from Ohio back in January with 37,000 on the clock. Currently it has 48,000 with the following mods:
Short Ram Intake (where the battery sits)
XS Power Catback Exhaust
B&M SS
XTD Stage 3 Clutch
SS Clutch Dampener Delete
Eibach Pro-Kit (Not Yet Installed)..
Now, the reason I am even considering of getting rid of my car is that I dont have any more money to modify it. Ive got school, a gf, and only work part time. If I had another 3k to put into it, i think i would be content. Ive put my car up for sale just as a feeler on craigslist and Im asking 7.5K. Ill prob sell it for 6.5K. Do you guys think that this a worthy trade, providing the sol owner forks up some cash to me? How long do you think that set up will last on that car?lol. Again, this is only a thought, but lemme know what you think.
Thanks for looking!

i can tell you one thing. that SOL looks hella good compared to your 240. not that i dont like yours its just that, that SOL is nice. if you get it, just repaint it and fix the dents. as far as the motor, i dont really know. lol

Given the circumstances you mention, and given the fact that car setup wise makes proven reliable power...I'd do the trade. ESPECIALLY if that dude was offerin up cash on top of it....yeah I wouldn't hesitate then by NO means.
Don't get me wrong, the 240 is clean...but you need cash...and a good bit of it to make that car somethin special. That guy has alot of cash in that del sol...beat body or not. I don't see how your car is honestly worth more...I'd take the deal no question.
If you did come into some cash, the money it'd have taken to make that 240 ALRIGHT from a mod'd standpoint will have made that Del Sol awesome!

Your 240 might be slow but it sure looks in way better shape. To me body of the car is more important then the engine. Keep your 240.

Re: Is this Del Sol worth it?(no 56K!!) (HKSdrift3r)
imo that del sol isnt worth it....cf hood is messed up..installation of the front lip looks like crap..paint isnt all that great....looks like a mess under the hood...if you want a del sol buy a stock one and build it yourself, dont pick up after somebody elses project...

so what you're looking for is a reliable DD while you're in school.
hmm lets see...a turbo'd del sol (in n.j. no less)
or a safe stock 240...
um.
sure your 240 is bloated and slow...i'd rather graduate with a nice clean stock 240 to start building then someones maaco mess with god knows how much rust to deal with

Re: (93blackcivic)
Wouldn't do it, maybe if u saw every single thing that he did to the car. u just can't be sure. stay w/ your car and feel reasurred instead of driving around afraid something might go wrong.

Im going to call the shop today that did his install and tuning to verify the condition of the motor and all those things hes got on it. Keep 'em coming guys!

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but if this is yuor daily driver....I'd keep it. I wouldn't want someone elses project...no matter how fas....as my daily driver that I depended on to go to work and back.

Re: (ilovemysedan)
Bunch of drift dreamers in here is the problem. Too many people sell out and go for 240's...time for someone to go the other direction.
If the car is dyno tuned for such a conservative horsepower number then it certainly is going to be realiable as long as you don't *** whip it everyday. I agree, check with the shop that did the install, get their honest opinion. Nothing like a Honda forum with a bunch of guys saying, "Screw taking that Honda, 240's FTW!!"

Re: (jdmdc10)
i'd keep the 240. The del sol CF hood fits like *** on the passenger side, theres a big *** gap. Your car only has 40k miles on it, and is good to go for a long while. Who needs a fast car, you need a dependable car. keep the 240

16psi on a stock ls? That's a stay away sign to start with. Think of why the guy who put soo much money into it wants to get rid of it? It probably has issues he's tired of dealing with.
You've got a low miles, near mint 240. A good daily driver that has a ton of potential. He's got a boosted clusterfuck of a sol that will likely break down every month or so. Desperately needs body work and a paint job. You'll be several grand deep just getting it to look decent.
Doing this trade will likely leave you walking and broke.
I've learned the hard way that what you want and what you need won't always meet at the time frame you originally hoped for.

keep the 240..that car is pretty rare here atleast. the del sol looke decent but the hodd must be some cheap CF hood.
i see a HUGE gap when closed and i don't think CF hoods have a huge indent with hood pins.
240 FTW!

Re: (*****est_raver)
you cant do cookies in a Del Slo, so keep your 240, will be alot more fun to drive. Plus that del sol is a lot more lickely to get stolen. Also i dont know how it is in your state, but the sol may be a salvage title since the airbag is off.

also, if you do decide to trade, use the money he gives you to cosmetically restore the del sol, as well as takin that biotch to a dyno and re-tuning it.... because that setup should be pushing WAYYYYY more power than 229 horses at 10 PSI.... with a good tune.
