Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
I have a 94 D16Z6 5 speed, and I'd like to add a cup holder to the car.
Is there anything in the hump I should know about before I start drilling a couple screws into it below the Pass vent near the floorboards?
I'm talkin gasline, evap lines, or wire harnesses etc?
Thanks for any advice!!

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
If you are referring to the ones in the arm rest, I like using the arm rest, and not bumping my arm on the drinks, or them sweating into the console and all over anything I keep inside there.. It was very poor design, and a total afterthought.
Now, if anyone can answer my question, I'd be grateful.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
I can't find one that would fit like this one does, and stays out of the way of the passenger legs.
I'm not here to argue about what I want to do to MY car, I just want to be sure its still going to run afterwords.
Thanks, now back to the original question please.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
I want to drill in the Metal hump between the seats. not plastic.
There really is no place on the door panels to put one there without drilling into them, and i'm not doing that either..
I've been looking for a solution for a good cupholder in my Sol for almost 10 years, and have finally found one, so all I need to know now is if theres anything in the hump.
Plain, simple.
Thanks

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
I can't answer your question but wanted to stop in and say that I agree with you that the factory Del-Sol cup holders SUCK. My cousin has a Del-Sol and anytime she has a cup in there and it sweats, the water leaks down into the console, if the drink fizzes out of the cup, it goes all in the console. I had to pull her center console out a few months ago and was disgusted at what I saw, the after math of years of spilt soft drinks plus loose change, etc is just freakin nasty.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
you should be fine if it's up near the shifter, its just shift linkage down there... but be careful if its by the ebrake cause the ebrake cables run toward the back of the car. hope this helps

Yeah, but how long is a 16yr old car going to last anyway?
I'll hit it with some silicone if I can, just 2 screws anyway.

Good idea, but I'm putting a cargo net there
And it may be hard for me to get to there, I'm a big 6' 240# guy
I'll take a pic when I do mine tomorrow. I think its a pretty good place to put it.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
This thread makes me wish I had a Del Sol. I'd kill for targa and power rear window, cargo nets and ****. Awesome. Shitty cupholders aside, totally sweet. The best thing about them: no room for child seats. F that. Just don't punch through your exhaust or anything when you drill.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
Who needs cupholders?
If you really want some, check the auto accessory aisle at Ricer Zone.
if that doesn't work, you could find some 'ribbons' of sheetmetal and make custom ones. Bend one into a circle and there ya go. Get another ribbon and bend it into a smaller radius circle, and weld/rivet it to a bar connecting the 2 so the bottom of your big gulp/can of coke has a place to rest (depends on how large of a cupholder you make), and mount it anywhere you want.
Personally, I'd forget the cupholders. Cars are meant to drive. Minivans are portable living rooms if you want to eat and drink and watch dvds on the road.

Re: Del Sol: Whats in the hump??
This will look MUCH closer like it goes to the car than 2 metal strips.
If I didnt care what it looked like, I'd used duct tape..
MW, thanks, but I'm going to drill sideways, and not into the floorpan, so I know I'll miss the exaust that way. I used to have a '73 pontiac and it had holes in the exaust, so I learned about JB Weld quickly lol.. that and drive with the windows down
Also MW, they aren't very expensive. Tx values them at $2500, and I see them sell for as low as $1500 in decent shape. BTW, they DO have room for a baby seat... If you count trunk space :D
Don, I think what I got will hold a big gulp, so I'll post when its done, and where to get it.. If it dosen't work out, I dont want to give any false hope lol

My Cargo Net is finished!
Now, WTF was crawling around in my car!?!
I am still looking for a way to make the cup-holders easily removable, so I shall post on that soon.
