Del sol tranny in d16y7....Help..pls...thx...
Hello,
I just bought a 95 del sol transmission, it says s20-xxxxxxx on the tranny.....I know it'll fit but will I run into any problems because I do see that the VSS is kind of diff, also will there be any diff as far as gear ratios? I've searched and saw that this is the gear ratio....
96-00 D16Y7 Civic DX/LX/CX 1st) 3.250 2nd) 1.762 3rd)1.172 4th) 0.909 5th)0.702 reverse)3.153 final drive) 3.722 this is my current tranny...
92-95 Civic Si / 93-95 del Sol Si D16Z6 1st) 3.250 2nd)1.900 3rd)1.250 4th)0.909 5th)0.750 Reverse)3.153 Final Drive)4.250 this is the del sol tranny....
So which one is better and what difference will I notice?
Thank you so much for taking a look....Please help...
maybe if i throw in the pic of my hatch i'll get more hits? ...lets try...

the Si trans in alot shorter and alot more fun to have. unless you want better gas mileage with the dx.

You need to look at the trans housing by the fill plug there will be a small stamp with the number S20-A000 or S20-B000 that will give us a better idea about what S20 trans you have.

ya z6 and y8 trany's have nearly identical gear ratios. the main dif. in them is the y8 has a steel (as opposed to an aluminum) shift fork, so it's stronger.

yes. higher number(basically)=shorter=faster acceleration=lower top speed in each gear=worse gas milage

yes you will notice a difference for sure. as far as d series are concerned, you're not that bad off with the dx tranny, but if you can upgrade for cheap why not.
and there shouldn't be any problem with getting it to fit, all d series transmissions are interchangable. and i'm almost positive that all 92-00 honda vss are interchangable...you may have to switch the plug that connects to your harness, but either sensor should fit the transmission fine.

Go Tigers!
the trans that you have now is a HX trans. It is the only transmission that is found on the d16y5. The d16y7 that is found on the 96-00 cx hatchback also uses the same transmission.
96-00 cx/hx trans = identical, HX is unique to 96-00, therefore HX trans
92-95 cx/vx trans = identical, VX is unique to 92-95, therefore VX trans.
depending on the condition of the del sol si trans, it will be a big upgrade to your HX Trans.
DX trans is the same 1-5 as the HX trans, DX uses 4.058 final, HX uses 3.722 final. So there is a pretty big difference between the two.
