Del sol suspension upgrade
i want to upgrade the suspension on my 96 del sol as well as lower it
what all would I need? just a full coilover kit like this?

or do I need something else / more?
Don't want to get too expensive, but don't want run of the mill garbage, want it to ride good / reliable
just daily driving, with the occasional road rage when someone trys to run on me
but any advice will help

I know that the Skunk2 coilover sleeves have a pretty agressive ride quality (stiff). As far as the full setup Im not sure what the spring rates are at.
Do you want something adjustable?
You could also look into some Tokico Illuminas with H&R springs (H&R run about 200) or even some Koni Yellows with H&R springs. If you want to go a little higher than 600... maybe the 900 range you can get a set of Koni with Ground Control coilover sleeves with custom spring rates. Try the suspension sponsor forum also, they have a lot of great deals.

The suspension in my beater was $350. KYB GR-2 shocks and Neuspeed Sport springs (1.5" drop).
It's been reliable and decent for 3 years and 70k miles.

Yeah adjustable would be nice for when I get wheels / tires
And I did a little bit of trolling in the sponsor forums, but I'm not really sure what I want / need.

You could aslo look into some Ksport or Omni full coilovers... just be sure to read the reviews on each of these as I have heard mixed feelings on their quality.
I would suggest looking into KYB AGX and Skunk2 sleeves, but for the price you would pay for that set up it would cost just as much as the full.

I think i'll just stay with a full kit all from the same place
Was looking at Tein's sets but they are pricey!
Recomend a full set for around $400-$500 bucks? Or am I just asking for trouble?

A $500 full coilover will be of VERY questionable quality.
As a daily driver setup, the GR-2/Neuspeed sport combo is more than adequate.
The suspension on my auto-x car was WAY more expensive:
Koni Yellow shocks--$580
Neuspeed Sofsport springs--$180
Suspension Techniques rear swaybar/lower tie combo--$375
If you aren't doing any sort of motorsports with it, just go for something that won't be bouncy and won't blow out in 10k miles. As I said, I have 70k+ miles on my EG w/ the KYB combo on it.

ksports are really nice. I have a couple friends with them I love riding in their cars. They used to have a lot of problems, but I think they have fixed somethings since then.

I've been researching suspensions recently. I've found a couple of things that might be handy to know. Ride quality is determined by a superb quality shock/strut. Good handling is dertermined by spring rates. It seems, for a civic anyways, that entry level permormance starts at about 400 lb/in, Or so ive been lead to beleive. So take it as it may be.
I'm gonna try to get the koni/Ground control setup with OTS rates.

For $500 you should get illuminas and some H&R/neuspeed springs.
And del sols have some hardcore unsersteer issues, so swaybars should be your next upgrade.
And if you don't have some nice sticky tires, do so immediately. Good tires will do more for your car than lowering it will.

Probably safer to have it understeer than to surprise him w/ oversteer (if he doesn't know how to deal w/ oversteer--most people who have never auto-xed/tracked a car don't) If you're driving hard enough on the streets to push your car to that limit, there's a bigger problem at hand.

i got kyb gr-2's and eibach sportlines on my 96 sol, ride is very comfortable and just as responsive. on the road it looks dumped but it's really only like 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 drop but really looks good. if your interested in the set up pm me an offer, might be going coil over so i wouldn't need em anymore
