Del Sol Subwoofer install help
So I'm trying to hook up my amp and subs and put em in the trunk of my 97 Del Sol. Only problem is I gotta run the wires from the cabin to the trunk. Solid steel between cabin and trunk so any ideas of how i can get the wires through? looks like theres already some wires going through the quarter...but I was having a hell of a time trying to get a cable snake through there. any ideas would be awesome

Try to find a place to drill through that won't be noticable to run wires through. Sometimes its the only option.

You have to take out the back plastic storage piece, and the pieces that go around the bottom. take the carpeting out of the trunk and on the steel wall where your glass goes there will be room on the left side or the right side for you to slide wire through. Id just put clean sounding interiors in and call it a day personally. Your bass quality will be terrible and the trunk rattles rediculasly.

dont do any cutting. take off fabric from your trunk (under the rear window mainly) and youll notice wires coming in through the top right of your trunk. you need to remove your whole center council, arm rest, and the compartments behind your seats, and the plastic stuff where the speakers are mounted. your pretty much gonna have to take aprt your whole interior and youll be able to access it and run the wires pretty easy. i had a sol before and ran my own wires. its alot easier than it sounds. trust me....
i just read the rest of the comments, yea, your trunk is gonna rattle really really bad.

the cabin and trunk aren't completely sealed from each other. Behind the rear quarter panel is a place on each side of the car that runs from the cabin to the trunk.
You just have to pull back the back corner of the trunk carpet and remove the rear interior panels.
Stealthboxes suck. You don't want the subwoofers in the cabin. The bass does not have time to resonate, and it overpowers the rest of the sound in the car. Horrible place for subs if you give a **** about SQ at all.
He probably means the JL Audio one.

Use the antenna as a fishline, or whatever they call it.
It goes to the trunk. Tape the wires to it, then pull the antenna till the other wires come thru, untape them, and put the antenna back?
I have never tried this, but it should work.

If you unbolt the seatbelt reel from the frame, you can easily stick your arm in there instead of fishing it through with something.

Oh, and as for rattles... it may be broken plastic screw anchors, or just old and loose. I have one on my drivers door.
I'm going to order the plastic anchors for the rear panel, and door panels soon, and will post later.
Also, go thru and tighten everything up. Door screws, bolts, whatever you feel you can get to, make hand tight. Not any more or you will crack it of its plastic.
Watch for my bare bones build thread coming soon, I'm going to do it all. (its stripped right now)

If you dyno mat, jus do the trunk lid. Regardless the back window will rattle when its down and the trunk latch will rattle.
I did a ghetto rig though. I put card board on the trunk lid in between the metal beams and it stopped that rattle and it stopped the trunk from flexing.
Running
Alpine deck
2 channel 800 watt kicker amp
Eclipse competition 10 inch sub in a band pass
The size of the box fits perfect. The targa top fits directly over the sub in the top holder.

Re: Del Sol Subwoofer install help
I installed a Bazooka in my Del Slow last month. I took apart the entire plastics and center console to run wires up the center. I always split the sound form the power to avoid interference. That is just how I learned it. I took some 8Ga wire and installed a fuse in line under the hood less than 1 foot from the pos term. I just added another nut to the bolt to attach the wire ring.
I used a long screwdriver to push into the cabin from engine compartment and then tied off some pull wire and fed it back through. Then I attached the 8Ga wire to it and fished it all in. I ran it up and over the ac controls, past the stereo and right down the center console to the opening behind driver seat to the trunk. At this point I also connected a blue wire for the amp switch with it and ran them together.
Then the Coax (rca) sound cables I did the same with but to the pass side opening. Then fished it into the trunk area. I had already removed the trunk carpeting prior to this.
Grounded out a black wire and spliced it to the harness for the bazooka and connected the other wires. Reinstalled the carpeting and used some self tapping screws to mount the tubein front of the spare between the wheels.
Put it all together and then installed two 6.5 speakers in the rear grills by using two screws in each. I put one in the top and one in the bottom and they mounted in great. Reached down inside the opening in the corners of the back of the cab and pulled up the speaker wires. Extended them out to reach and voila! I had all four speakers and a sub in just a couple of hours.
I hope this was clear enough and added something to the string.
Peter
$68 JVC deck
$49 Pioneer two ways X 2 front and rear.
$75 used bazooka tube from Craigslist
$15 wire and fuse and connectors
Total - Good enough volume to hear with top off and windows down going 100MPH.
