Del Sol: Removing Rear Window Trim and Paint Questions
Hey guys, my spring break is right around the corner, and I plan to do a little work on the Del sol. I have a few questions that hopefully someone can help answer.
1.) How do you remove the rear trim below the rear window? I wanted to pull it off and plasti-dip it. Seems like the better route than purchasing a new one.
2.) I have a decent amount of rock chips on the front bumper. I was considering respraying it myself. What website do you recommend to get OEM paints? I have Grenada Black Pearl on my 1994. How much will I need? Will I need a special primer meant for plastic since this is a bumper? Thanks!
Any links to other posts or tutorials is greatly appreciated also! Thanks for your help guys!
Chris.

Removing them might end up costing you more if you break any clips or the plastic trim itself. Why not cover up the areas you don't want the dip on and dip away?

I've seen people remove them, and to be brutally honest, it would probably be more efficient to hang it and plasti-dip it.

Re: Del Sol: Removing Rear Window Trim and Paint Questions
I did a DIY on this a few yrs ago. But nobody cared so it never got added to the FAQ lol.
I did it on my dads Sol. it "rolls" out to the back, and it may help to have the back panel off so you can see behind the glass as you are working with it. (tho, maybe not, it already was out)
Just take it slow, and you should be fine. The clips are a lil beefier that some others, so they shouldn't break. if they do, it was time to change em out anyway. (I see they are discontinued, but you can prob find one at a junk yard etc.)
Good luck!

Give it a shot. like i said, it rolls out, so, it SHOULD be able to do it with it in. But if you feel better, the window isn't hard to remove. Just lots of time.

Good luck finding a sol at a junkyard. There's only 2 within 2500 miles of me
First thing I did to my sol.... You really don't have to remove it, just mask it and spray.

clips are discontinued, but can find them on ebay and thats what I was talking about.
If you HAVE to, the trim is still around on hondaparts, but its $80!

Just a quick update! The trim piece is being plasti dipped today. You CANNOT remove it or the clips without the window being removed. It does not roll down far enough to "roll out." thank you for your help though!

As stated, you'll have to break the clips in order to remove them.
Just tape up what you don't want dipped and proceed.....

Ah, ok. Like I said, its been a while and I couldn't remember if it was out or not.
Tony, I posted pics in my DIY, but no one cared back then lol.
And you dont have to break the clips, IF you have the room to roll it at least lol.
Its really not that hard to at least loosen the window frame either, so it wouldn't take much more time. But if you're not stripping the whole car anyway, then it shouldn't matter.
