Del Sol Pro's and Con's The official end all thread.
#176
I love my sol, my friend gave it to me last winter. Woot.
Its a 93 si model
Spent around $1500 fixing it (time belt was worn out, exhaust manifold was craked and etc..)
I boosted it last month on a stock motor (i'll be building it soon)
I LOVE IT.
except the roof leaks when it rains. it pours into the car.
are there any cheap easy way to fix it? will silicon sealer work?

the top being off doesn't effect the flex of chassis anymore than when it's on. if it does it's not noticeable

so the only way of fixing my t-top leak is to buy the weather strips?... is that hard to come by?
Also, so your saying that my S is already prewired for v-tec and all i need is the right head and ecu?
if thats the case, off what engine should i get the head from...?

Del sol rocks!! i own a 93 si.. and chicks like it!!
also is easy to swap another engine on it.. right here in cali is easy to buy a japanese motor, now cuz they import a lot of these engines over here.. with only 30 to 45 k miles on then...

Pros:
- Amazing gas mileage with a JDM D16 VTEC
- Old enough to have an ashtray
- SO MANY COMPARTMENTS!!!! w/ lock
- Aux lights were a big one for me
- Removable Targa + Storage rails
- Perfect for travel aka lots of trunk space
- Girlfriend loves it and no room for kids
- Quality interior for the most part
Neutral:
- As with a 93 anything rust...
- It may or may not be a deathtrap
- Lack of rigid body really helps the car to stick to the road, especially when driving in the Appalachian mountains of Pennsylvania
Cons:
- Light bulb in center console is required to finish cigarette lighter circuit
- Wrinkly door panels
- Flimsy fuse box cover
- Leaky targa top / cost of seals
- Leaky everything actually (work in progress)
- Targa top "chatter"

Re: Del Sol Pro's and Con's The official end all thread.
Just wondering, my Del Sol never came with a radio cover. Could anyone post a pic or describe it to me? The headunit is aftermarket and I can tell there is a piece missing right where the console meets the bottom of the headunit

Here's the view from inside, where the radio sits:
The springs and hinge pins are the weak point. I've sen a lot of cars without the cover.

Re: Del Sol Pro's and Con's The official end all thread.
Hey thanks for the pics I really appreciate it. I've checked all the junkyards around my area from Philly to Northeast Maryland and I haven't found a Del Sol yet. Got any idea where I may be able to purchase that part and what it's called exactly? I have the console just missing the door.

Re: Del Sol Pro's and Con's The official end all thread.
I sent you a pm. A lead on a good one. Not sure if you get messages as a trial user though.
Here's that parts diagram:
HondaPartsNow
It's number 8, "Lid, Console", but all the small parts are separate and not available. I might pick one up when I go junking this week. Cost would probably be the same as the one I pm'ed you about.
That's enough traffic for this old thread.

I don't care who thinks it's a chick car. It got me my beautiful, ex-DKNY model wife. You would think one of my Lexus LS's would have impressed her...nope....it was my 93 Del Sol SI..
