Del Sol Harness Bars Almost Finished...
They should be going to be powdercoated the beginning of next week. If you don't want yours powdercoated black, you MUST order yours right now and let me know.
Info:
Okay everyone, the harness bars are getting made! Made for the del Sol only, of course. They're going to be $120+shipping and will include all hardware to install them. The only thing you'll have to do is modify your interior (plastic piece where the seatbelt comes out) to fit. They'll be powdercoated black. The ends are laser cut, the center will be 1.5x.12 DOM tubing (SCCA recommended size & type for roll cage tubing), and it will be TIG welded (a lot better than the prototype). Uses your stock seatbelt bolts for strength and a couple other bolts (provided, uses stock holes) for stability.
They will be available around the end of November to those who pre-order. Pre-orders will get a $10 discount ($110+shipping) and they must be in by November 14th. To see lots of pics, go here and click on the links. BTW, I added some door stripping around the holes since those pics and they look a TON better. Sorry, can't find the pics.
PM or email me for more information or to order I will accept PayPal, MO, and personal check.
Also, if people are interested I can sell a bolt-in harness kit along with it that will allow you to use your stock seatbelt for the street and the harness for the track. These will be $90+shipping and come with the harness shown above in blue, black, red, purple, or grey.

i may be waaaaaaaaay off base here, but don't del sol's have some sort of internal rollbar/bracing built into the frame? i think i remember there being a discussion about this in the road racing forum. isn't it somethign similar to what is in high-end porshes and the like? fill me in...

Re: Del Sol Harness Bars Almost Finished... (Doctor CorteZ)
It's for weekend autocrossing, not for driving around on the street. If you notice, my stock belt is still there for street use. Yes, the del Sol has rollover protection to some extent already, but I still don't recommend using it on the street. If you can tell me a better way for the weekend autocrosser to mount a harness in a del Sol, I'll give you a cookie...
PS - I put it in this forum since it only applies to del Sols...thought about putting it in Classifieds.

That's not practical for your average autocrosser. That's for someone whose car is very race-oriented. While I'm in the process of building del Sol #2 with a full cage in it, that's really not practical in a street car. Try again...

I wouldnt ever install harnesses in a car without a rollbar , even in an autocross cars do roll.
harness + no rollover protection may result in broken neck.
not a chance I'm willing to take.

Definitely yes to #1, IMO yes to #2. These will look 10x better than the prototype shown in the pics. Go to http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~davisbc/car/harnessbar/ to see more pics

you should NOT be using the harness without a rollbar ESPICALLY when your autocrossing
thats MORE of a risk of rolling.

It's okay in here.
Try the classifieds too.
I'll echo that it would only be good for auto-X, but if you're doing any real tracking at high speeds then you'll need a full rollbar/cage if you want to safely utilize a harness. Stock belts are designed to allow your body to move in the evtn of a roll over.

Re: Del Sol Harness Bars Almost Finished... (9EG2Sol5)
nasty *** seats.. and car.. puke! lol.. even the red del sol ewwww two thumbs down
i think this is a pretty good idea, cuz #1 not a lot of companies make roll bars for del sols (cusco is the only i know of), #2 there is no way to securely mount a harness in the del sol safely (unless u wanna mount it straight vertically from the back of the seat to the ground ), #3 this bar probably adds more rigidity into the body/frame of the sol, (its kinda like those bars for the EKs and EGs which connect the rear seat belt mounts together), and #4 u can probably mount a camera here too (plenty of reasons for this.....police chases, autocross, filming chicks down sunset blvd flashing u during spring break )
from me!
now this is one good post from a del sol owner, we havent seen that around here for a while.

Re: Del Sol Harness Bars Almost Finished... (navin)
The part isnt for a roll bar!!! Its just so yo can use racing harnesses... (correct me if i'm wrong) He said it is mad out of the same tubing you would use for a roll bar or cage. Even the name would suggest what its for "Del Sol Harness Bars Almost Finished"

OMG, why won't people leave it alone. I don't claim it will protect you in a rollover. This is basically the equivalent of using harnesses in your Civic by connecting them in the rear...just makes it possible to do in the sol.
