Del Sol GSR swap?
I am considering swaping the GSR motor into my 93 del sol. Has anybody had any experience with this swap or know any stats about it. Also someone was telling me about the Ls Vtec. Which i am kind of skeptical about because i have heard good and bad stories. Any info would be useful. thanks.

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (cnydelSolHybrid)
13.8???? Why pay $2000 & swap then? I run 14 flat left and right with a single cam and zex 75 shot, on nitto's! and im in a heavier car (2000 ex 2dr coupe). I plan on running low 12s with 100 shot after i build my bottom end!

you arent constantly running the shot on the street, are you? a slow car with n2o doesnt neccesarily make a nice street car.

Bryan- I thought it was a 13.6?

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (UpstateCivic)
Yea I stand corrected. i ran 13.6 with the mods listed above. that was at the begining of the summer. long time ago... 13.8 was my 1st of 3 runs. and why pay $$$ for the dohc engine. its show and go. and noone wants to see a sohc turd under the hood in my opinion. so thats why i swapped mine. and i have no regrets

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (cnydelSolHybrid)
why not run juice on the streets too? i prefer the track anyways but if im in the mood to go fast on the road the bottle only a turn away! good for you guys you paid 2 gs for an engine that LOOKS nice. 50 additional hp for $2000??? i'll bet you i can build up a single cam motor to be more powerful than the gsr on the motor and be able to run 100 shot on top of it due to built internals for $2000 while youre still waiting to save another $2000 to build the gsr up!
Heres a good figure for you!
D16Z6 Swap.....$750.00= .168 hp per dollar
B16 Swap..........$2000.00= .08 hp per dollar
And as for you who doubt me running low 14, my car makes 110whp off bottle add a 75 shot and wallah! 185whp! (actually only dynoed 181 because zex rates their shot at the flywheel) and 169 ft pds of torque. That is more than enough to send a 2500lbs car across the 1/4 in 14 flat.

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyanCivic2000)
i dont mean to start any fights, i'm just tired of hearing JUST SWAP, JUST SWAP, JUST SWAP, everyone is too quick to throw away their MIGHTY D-SERIES because the TRENDY thing to do is get a b series these days.

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyanCivic2000)
unless you want to constantly pull over and fill the tank, or you have someone brewing up nitrous for your car in the trunk you are not running a constant supply. so your car really has a hundred some horses. you have less aftermarket support, and the gains are less no matter what you do.

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyanCivic2000)
besides if youre filthy rich and can burn money away why get a gsr? why not H22 VTEC or B20 with a B18C head?? those are powerful motors!

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyanCivic2000)
my ***, you can get anything for a d-series that you can for a b! ANYTHING! can't run a CONSTANT supply of nitrous anyways, it wouldnt be good for the car! 1 bottle lasts me a 2-4 weeks easy. I dont race my car at every red light like every ricer out there! i only use it to embarass people every now and then. i usually go up to a b series guy and ask him if he wants to run a single cam! they usually laugh until they lose. how do i get rid of this trial user thing by the way it won't let me post again?

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyanCivic2000)
thats exactly my point, you CANT run a constant supply without destroying your car....funny, but my car always has that power on tap. oh, owned by post limit

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (Malachi)
More like biggest waste of money. Its nice that you spent all that money to have 140 whp.
Im glad that you like to race your car everytime you get in it and drive it! I personally dont abuse my motor like that. If i want to go fast all i have to do is flip a switch. THAT IS POWER ON TAP!

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (RyansCivic2000)
i guess since ive only got 4 grand invested in it, including the cost of the car im not too upset. i went with something that made more power even though the cost was higher, since the stock sohc was toast when i bought it i didnt want to regret not getting what i wanted. shame on me.

Re: Del Sol GSR swap? (Malachi)
4 GRAND! good god thats alot of money. i hope you have alot done to it. by the way zex kit= $485, but i spent several thousand on some luxuries too! actually i shouldn't call them luxuries because they do help and will be NEEDED once my car has 250whp and once again..........
D16Z6 Swap.....$750.00= .168 hp per dollar
B16 Swap..........$2000.00= .08 hp per dollar
ooooooooo.......it made more power, i bet with the extra $1250 you could have made the D16 more powerful right away though!
That is on the expensive side for a D16 too, since everyone wants to ignorantly throw it out and blow money on a B, i can pick them up for around $450-$500
